The Associate Vice-Provost for the Center for Excellence in Inclusive Teaching and Learning will lead equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts both inside and outside the classroom and will, in collaboration with other committed colleagues, assemble a new team to support this work including a faculty member to lead programming in the Center for Excellence in Inclusive Teaching and Learning, a faculty member to support curriculum change, an additional position to serve the growing population of Hispanic students, and administrative support for these strategic efforts.

Reports To: Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and works closely with the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $120,000

Essential Job Functions

The Associate Vice Provost (AVP) will coordinate and manage the Center’s operations, personnel, budgets, professional development programing, resources, and assessment.

The AVP will coordinate professional development for all faculty and staff related to teaching and learning, including: the development of innovative and inclusive pedagogies, course and curriculum design, new faculty orientation and the New Faculty Colloquium, and the appropriate use of technology to facilitate student learning.

The AVP will work directly with faculty/instructional staff; departments and programs to support growth and development for teaching and learning.

In their role fostering best practices in educational development, the AVP will work as a consultant to those groups who are instituting or altering policies related to major changes to the General Education curriculum as well as other curricular innovations specific to creating high quality engagement with social justice, anti-racism, equity and inclusion.

The AVP will work with appropriate administrative units as well as campus and governance groups that support EDI, such as the EDI Council, the Center for Community and Business Engagement, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA), the Assistant Provost for Student Success, Deans, our four colleges, and others.

The AVP will meet regularly with an advisory board to set new directions for the Center.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day Center for Excellence in Inclusive Teaching and Learning operations including programs, activities, communication, budget and staff.
  • Coordinate with related units, such as Innovations in Learning, the Committee on Teaching and Learning, Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, LGBTQ Center, and other offices that support student success.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of UW-Parkside’s Summer Institute, “Creating an Anti-Racist Classroom Through Teaching and Learning.
  • Develop and implement a portfolio of successful initiatives that generates campus-wide interest and participation leading to ongoing focus on innovative pedagogy, anti-racism, community discussion, and improvement of student learning such as workshops, seminars, summer and/or Winterim teaching institutes, faculty learning communities, mentoring programs and other educational development opportunities.
  • Assist faculty in exploration and experimentation with innovative teaching methods and tools.
  • Actively seek grant support to help fund Center activities.
  • Foster the use of high-impact practices, including portfolios, writing intensive courses, intercultural engagement, service learning, and others.
  • Teach one course per year.
  • Stay in touch with current research on educational development and EDI training in higher education and maintain an active research agenda in an area of pedagogical expertise. This will include the public sharing of scholarship via conference presentations, publications, etc., and will model pedagogical research for the campus.
  • Serve as the administrative representative to OPID, the UW-System’s Office of Professional and Instructional Development program, and facilitate participation in OPID programs including the Wisconsin Teaching Fellows and Scholars Program, Faculty College, and the OPID Annual Spring Teaching Conference and other OPID initiatives.

  • Lead the development of effective student course evaluation tools.
  • Assist departments and programs in establishing clear learning outcomes for academic programs, and in designing and implementing effective program level assessment processes.
  • Serve as a member of the Committee on Teaching and Learning and coordinate support for the Stella Grey Teaching Excellence Award selection process.
  • Work closely with Innovations in Learning to ensure the effective use of technology for in-person, remote, and hybrid instruction, and help coordinate the assessment of online learning.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of the New Faculty Orientation Program and the New Faculty Colloquium.


  • Ph.D./Ed.D. or discipline-specific terminal degree with a minimum of six years teaching experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated expertise in inclusive pedagogies and implementing the principles of inclusive excellence.
  • Strong knowledge of teaching and learning strategies and assessment practices.
  • Experience developing and leading faculty professional development programming, such as workshops, book groups, conferences, etc.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with others, to problem solve, and to coordinate and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
