Overview

The Office of Finance & Treasury at Princeton University seeks finance professional to join our Sponsored Research Accounting (SRA) management team.  The Manager, Sponsored Research Accounting Administration plays a leading role in the SRA department and its responsibility to perform the central office post award accounting and financial administration functions for the University’s sponsored awards, which exceeded $300 million in sponsored research expenditures for FY20.

 

The position provides post award management and administrative oversight of the University’s sponsored awards which include monitoring contract set-up in PeopleSoft 9.2 Grants Module, approving financial -reports, and responding to internal and external customers, and directly supporting a small portfolio of grants. This position will respond to late cost transfer journals, analyze exception reports for cost allowability and lead trainings for the academic grants community and SRA staff.  

 

The Manager, SRA Administration manages a team of SRA Analysts, Administration who are responsible for performing essential day to day operations that include monitoring an assigned portfolio of sponsored awards, setting up and maintaining contracts and bill plans in PeopleSoft 9.2 Grants Module, and providing problem resolution and support to internal and external customers. This position will work closely with the other Manager, SRA Cash Management and Administration in supporting the operational efficiency and compliance to regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Supervises Team of SRA Analysts, Administration & Award Portfolio

  • Ensures grant portfolios are properly set up for billing and reporting purposes, and managed in accordance with federal regulations, sponsor award agreements and University policies from inception through award close out for direct reports
  • Provides guidance to staff on complex regulatory issues for resolution
  • Communicates regulatory or system changes to staff and the impact on organizational policies, processes and practices
  • Manages and evaluates staff performance along with regular feedback and coaching that is aligned with training and developmental goals
  • Manages small portfolio of sponsored projects and interfaces with assigned department(s) as needed for financial management and compliance

Provides Administrative Oversight & Support

  • Works with administrators in central business units, university academic departments and sponsors as needed to resolve outstanding issues 
  • Interfaces with the Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA) to collaborate on challenging issues including evaluation of risks and benefits associated with non-government and international sponsoring agencies

Training & Campus Outreach

  • Collaborates with the SRA Sr. Associate Director to develop curricula and content for compliance focused trainings that educate and inform the University’s grants community
  • Leads and/or co-leads trainings, information sessions and presentations on sponsored research changes and updates
  • Provides mentorship to SRA staff

Approves Financial Reports and Transactions

  • Reviews and provides signatory approval on final financial reports for awarding agencies
  • Approves late cost transfer justification forms
  • Reviews and approves business expense reports for SRA staff
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or a inimum of 5-7 years of related work experience, including managerial
  • Ability to understand and interpret government rules and regulations and complex grant and contract language
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other electronic database and financial systems
  • Knowledge of online government and non-government grants management systems
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Excellent financial and accounting problem solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of government and non-government sponsored research rules and regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Business, Finance, or Management or CPA
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, Coeus, Cognos
  • Experience with the administration and accounting for federal sponsored research grants
  • Experience at Princeton University or a university similar to Princeton University
