General Summary
The Public Safety Officer will report to the Sergeant of Public Safety. The Public Safety Officer will detect and prevent crime and enforce all laws and University rules and regulations, preserve the peace, protect life and property within his/her span of control.
This position will monitor the safety of students, faculty and staff on the Lincoln Park and Loop campuses through patrol activity on campus and within DePaul buildings, monitor visitor access to DePaul buildings, conduct foot patrols, lock down classrooms and respond to service calls and alarms and report suspicious activity. This position will also assist Chicago Police and Fire departments with special detail, as needed, for campus activities and events.
All candidates who have a successful interview will undergo background & drug screening as well as finger printing.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum experience of 1 year in public safety or law enforcement, or related service-oriented industry.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Possess visual acuity.
- Good physical condition without any restriction in the ability to walk, run, stand or climb multiple flights of stairs.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Requirements
- Some college coursework/credit.
