Position Summary:

The position will lead the cucurbit breeding and genetics for whitefly and whitefly transmitted diseases as part of a team in the southeastern USA. This position will work on identifying sources of resistance, resistance loci and genes, doing functional analysis of genes, and introgression of resistance into elite material.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

Requirements for this position includes Ph.D in Plant Breeding or other relevant field.
Preferred qualifications that give the candidate an advantage include (1) experience with whitefly transmitted viruses, (2) experience with gene-editing, and (3) experience in cultivar development and release. A valid Georgia divers license is required to use university vehicles.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

(1) Experiences with field disease phenotyping, (2) genetic and QTL mapping, (3) bioinformatics, (4) interest and experience in collaborative research, (5) background in breeding, plant pathology, molecular genetics, genomics or other relevant background.

This position requires data collection in the field during the hot humid summer in Georgia and work in a hot greenhouse.
