Terminal degree required. Additional professional licensure and/or certification in the field may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school and must either be admitted to the Georgia Bar or must gain admission within 6 months of starting the position.

Position Summary:

The Fellow will support the mission of the Jane W. Wilson Family Justice Clinic as determined by the Director including representing low-income victims of domestic violence and stalking in emergency protective order proceedings and other domestic relations matters, supervision of law students representing clients under the Student Practice Act, and community outreach and education. This is a one-year appointment position.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

0-3 years’ experience as a practicing attorney; demonstrated skill in advocacy and representing clients; experience with victims of domestic violence and stalking; experience with low-income populations; experience in community outreach and education; strong advocacy and writing skills; knowledge of trauma-informed lawyering practices; strong consideration will be given to candidates who are fluent or conversational in Spanish.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Lead or co-counsel with director in client representation for the Clinic in Superior Courts, with potential for co-counsel in appellate courts and/or Federal courts; supervising law students in all aspects of client representation including intake, client meetings, and courtroom representation; responsibility for accepting/declining Clinic cases in conjunction with the director; communicating with courts/court personnel, counsel, and service providers; drafting and filing pleadings; legal research; local and state policy advocacy on issues of domestic violence and stalking.
