Job DetailsJob Location Oglethorpe University - Atlanta, GAPosition Type Full-Time Faculty The Oglethorpe University Chemistry Department is searching for 3 Visiting Assistant Professors for the 2021-2022 academic year. Potential teaching responsibilities will include some combination of General Chemistry Lecture/Laboratory, Organic Chemistry Lecture/Laboratory, or Physical Chemistry Lecture/ Laboratory. This chemist will teach in the recently refurbished laboratory space in Oglethorpes Cousins Center for Science and Innovation. They will join a team of chemistry faculty to work collectively to deliver the lecture/laboratory components of the sequenced portion of our chemistry curriculum. The current chemistry faculty are continuously updating the introductory chemistry series and would be receptive to the addition of new modules/content as well. The new faculty member will be responsible for teaching the equivalent of two lectures and three laboratories in every semester. Each section of lecture enrolls no more than 25 students (18 students for lab), so the learning environment is ideal for one-on-one faculty-student interactions and for implementing innovative pedagogical strategies. Successful applicants must have a history of collaborating productively and enthusiastically with other colleagues and must be interested in progressive, student-centered models of chemistry instruction. Applicants will be expected to foster an inclusive learning environment by engaging in/promoting diverse teaching, learning, research, and mentoring communities. As a Visiting Assistant Professor, our new faculty member will be expected to participate in other programs and initiatives sponsored by the Natural Sciences Division and the greater Oglethorpe community (e.g., division meetings, student poster sessions, mentoring events, student clubs and activities).

M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field; preferably in an area relevant to course objectives. A record of prior successful experience as a laboratory instructor is desirable.

Starting and Ending Dates

The first day of class for the Fall 2021 semester is Monday August 30th but applicants should be prepared to work in the week prior to the start of school to work on course development with the rest of the Chemistry team. The last day of classes is Tuesday December 7^th. Final grades are due by December17^th. The Spring 2022 semester starts on Wednesday February 2^nd and ends on Tuesday May 10^th, with grades due on Thursday May 19^th.
