General Summary

Direct the performance of a significant functional area of accounting responsibility to maintain accurate, complete accounting records and data for University and governmental officials. Position functions with a high degree of independence to provide administrative oversight direction and training to other professional staff within area of responsibility.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Direct assigned area of responsibility.

Function as EMU administrator and management team member to represent the interests of the University.

Prepare financial statements, and perform related financial analysis. This includes the monitoring and assessment of overall fiscal performance and the implementation of any necessary financial reporting instruments. Maintain relevant systems and applications related to financial planning, analysis, and reporting.

Review and monitor insurance and risk compliance as may be assigned.

Assign and monitor work done by professional and clerical staff.

Monitor the input and changes to, and maintenance of, the automated accounting system.

Process payments in compliance with contracts, laws, and regulations.

Review and/or concur with journal entries to the proper account(s).

Evaluate present accounting and operational systems; and recommend changes.

Perform liaison function with other departments.

Perform year-end closing and reporting of audit schedules.

Review and approve budget proposals for consideration of outside support.

Assist in compliance and assessment activities.

Perform related departmental duties, as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field, is necessary in order to perform and direct various accounting duties in an assigned area of responsibility.

A Master's degree is desirable.

Four years experience as a professional accountant is necessary.

Proficiency with personal computers and spreadsheet software applications is necessary.

Supervisory/management experience is desirable.

Primary Responsibilities

Process the receipt and forwarding of monthly state aid payments to authorized academies as directed by state law and charter contract

Monitor and assess authorized academies fiscal performance and financial reporting as required by state law and charter contract

Monitor academy insurance compliance as required by charter contract in accordance with MUSIC, Michigan Universities Self Insurance Corporation

Maintain the CSO’s web-based academy compliance application (Epicenter)

Maintain the CSO webpages

Assist in developing and improving CSO policies, processes, and procedures for monitoring academy compliance and performance with applicable laws and the charter contracts

Develop and maintain CSO financial and compliance reports.

Interact with University Controller, Associate General Counsel, and accounting departments to facilitate
charter fiscal agent responsibilities.
