Essential Functions:

We currently enroll over 7,000 students in which 68% identify as Latinx, 1% as Filipino, 8% as Asian, 3% as Black/African American, 18% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

The instructor may be required to complete the Distance Education Certification in order to teach courses virtually. If required, the certification can be obtained through the college and must be completed within the first semester.

Under the direction of the Dean of Instruction for STEM and CTE, providing instruction in Business Administration/Office Technology on the Madera Community College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations, the instructor will be responsible for:

• Teaching a full schedule of Business Administration and/or Office Technology courses. Courses that may be assigned in Office Technology may include but not limited to: Computer Basics, Medical Terminology, Document Formatting, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, QuickBooks, Keyboarding, Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Office Management Software, and Medical Document Preparation. Courses that may be assigned in Business may include but not limited to: Introduction to Business, Business Communications, Business Law, Business Statistics, Personal Finance, Entrepreneurship, Human Relations in Business, Small Business Operations and other related disciplines as assigned;
  
• As lead faculty for the Office Technology courses and programs, responsible for building connections with local and regional industry and adult education partners;
  
• Developing and/or revising of curriculum and program, including program review and developing and assessing of student learning outcomes for courses and programs to improve student learning;
  
• Collaborating with discipline faculty and across the college to implement guided pathways concepts in order to promote student success and completion;
  
• Communicating effectively with students and staff and maintaining effective working relationships;
  
• Participating in the accreditation process;
  
• Communicating effectively with students and staff and maintaining effective working relationships;
  
• Developing/utilizing technologies for classroom presentations;
  
• Advising and promoting student success by assisting students in completing certificates and Associate Degrees in Business and Office Technology, and/or transfer or employment in related career fields;
  
• Participating in appropriate professional meetings and workshops;
  
• Cooperating with regard to scheduling classes between colleagues in the same disciplines;
  
• Participating in student recruiting and outreach activities and events with evening and weekend commitments;
  
• Serving on and participating in department, division, college, and district committees as needed;
  
• Working on assignments in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed; and
  
• Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

• Master’s in business, business management, business administration, accountancy, finance, marketing or business education AND two years of directly related experience;
  
  OR
  
  
• Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in economics, personnel management, public administration, or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or
  Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) AND two years of directly related experience;
  
  OR
  
  
• Bachelor’s in economics with a business emphasis AND Master’s in personnel management, public administration, or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or
  Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) AND two years of directly related experience;
  
  OR
  
  
• A valid California Community College Credential;
  
  OR
  
  
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency)

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  
• Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  
• Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  
• Experience working with a diverse student population;
  
• Related work and professional experience;
  
• Experience teaching at the post-secondary level;
  
• Professional and/or teaching experience in Office Technology;
  
• Knowledge of computer applications, emerging technologies and social media networking/media in the workplace;
  
• Knowledge of office procedures and terminology for medical, legal, executive offices and training people for a one-person office;
  
• Experience serving on committees;
  
• Knowledge and use of current educational technology and multimedia presentation software;
  
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, and distance learning;
  
• Demonstrated ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences/backgrounds;
  
• Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes;
  
• Commitment to professional growth including demonstrated willingness to improving teaching methodology;
  
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
  
• Related work and professional experience;
  
• Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
  
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days.

Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $57,750 - $86,942 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,160 is available. Salary and stipends are prorated based on the number of duty days assigned. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).


Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
