Visiting Research Specialist in Agriculture

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Position: Visiting Research Specialist in Agriculture, Full Time Academic Professional Position in the Department of Animal Sciences responsible for conducting research in companion animal and comparative nutrition.

Responsibilities:

Oversee research projects ensuring laboratory supplies, accurate logs, and record books; troubleshooting and resolving problems; performing analytical assays.

Conduct laboratory analysis, with main focus on chromatography (i.e., GC-MS and HPLC).

Support animal studies by assisting to develop and execute nutritional interventions and sample collections.

Ensure compliance of daily operational laboratory procedures that support ongoing and future research projects.

Supervise graduate students, undergraduate students and visiting scholar’s research and train new employees.

Other duties as assigned to advance the mission of the department.

Qualifications:

Required

Education: B. S. required in chemistry, biochemistry, or similar field.

Experience: Experience with laboratory analysis, including chromatography (HPLC and GC-MS) and spectrophotometry. Experience with working with monogastric animals in a research setting including daily animal care, fecal and blood collections, sample processing. Attention to detail required, as is the ability to work well in a team environment.

Preferred

Education: Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or similar field.

Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible after the closing date.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Appointment Details: FLSA exempt, 100%-time Visiting Academic Professional position, 12-month service bases. This position may become non-visiting at a later time dependent upon funding and programmatic needs.
