Description of Work:

Academic Instructors are responsible for teaching Upward Bound’s Rising-Sophomores and Rising-Juniors from Chatham, Durham, and Lee counties on Special Topics in Select Core Classes; Math, English (Rhetoric and Composition), Chemistry and Biology, History, French and Spanish. This allows our Academic Instructors to offer Scholars a Contextualized Exploration into the Subject Area they are studying where they are learning Skills necessary for them to be successful in Future High School Courses. Academic Instructors will work closely with the Upward Bound Academic Advisor in determining Best Practices and developing Curriculum designed to meet the Needs of the Scholars. Academic Instructors will:

• Attend required Staff Training and Student Orientation Sessions prior to the Beginning of the Summer Academy.
• Creatively engage Scholars in up to 6 Hours of Course Instruction each week.
• Hold 6 Hours of Office Hours each week.
• Hold weekly Standing Meetings with Supplemental Instructor.
• Update Grades and Attendance weekly.
• Conduct Pre and Post-Test Assessments to measure Growth throughout the Course.
• Create and submit Syllabus outlining Course Design (Assignments and Materials).
• Attend weekly Team Meetings to assess Scholar Performance, review Concerns and highlight Successes.
• Demonstrate Integrity, Dependability, and a Passion for promoting College Access and Student Success

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in education, special education, instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline with
coursework in curriculum development or learning theory; or a Bachelor’s degree in the assigned discipline and two years of experience in teaching,
educational testing, or instructional design and curriculum development; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be
received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Academic Instructors are expected to have the following Qualifications:
• Must be a Licensed/Credentialed Teacher in the State of North Carolina OR have Relevant Teaching and/or Workshop Experience.
• Able to commit to fulfilling Assigned Responsibilities throughout the Academic Portion of the Summer Program.
• Must successfully complete a Background Check (Additional Information will be provided to Select Applicants).
• Experience working with First Generation and/or Underrepresented Minority Youth
• Present themselves as positive, motivational Role Models to Scholars at all times.
