Essential Job Duties:

This position will serve the Wilson College of Textiles community. It is entry level and does not require relevant work experience, although the candidate should have some familiarity with computers.

- Will provide IT support for staff, faculty, and students in the Wilson College of Textiles, working with professional IT staff
- Opportunity to develop IT, customer service skills and to see how IT underpins scientific research
- Apply analytical skills to solve problems of low to moderate complexity as skills develop
- Create technical documentation for solutions and systems
- Work with diverse technologies, from Linux and Mac to A/V and discipline applications

The IT Support Technician provides first tier desktop computing support to faculty, staff, graduate students and post-docs in the College. This includes providing support for computers in classrooms and labs. This role involves troubleshooting computer-related problems of low to moderate complexity; setting up computers, tablets, printers and other accessories; researching and answering questions related to the use of common applications. It may also involve installing and troubleshooting specialty software applications or connecting computers to equipment. The IT Support Technician works with College and University IT to understand and apply appropriate standards and to route support requests appropriately.

Duties may include:

– Monitor ServiceNow assignment group for service requests and respond within established timeframe

– Perform checks to ensure that classroom and lab computers are functioning

– Reinstall computers using standard images and methods

– Clean labs and computers

– Set up and manage tablets and laptops using carts

– Troubleshooting computer-related problems of low-to-moderate complexity
– 
Installing specialized software

– Recording inventory

– Documenting solutions and configurations

– Setting up new computers and connecting them to printers, scanners or other accessory devices

– Requesting IP addresses for new computers

– Research and answer questions regarding the use of common applications

– Learning and applying appropriate security standards
– 
Understanding and referring clients to appropriate university or vendor resources
– Learning and independently researching new operating systems, software packages, networking and security standards, and other IT-related information

Minimum Experience/Education:

1 Year Business IT Troubleshooting Experience

Department Required Skills:

Working knowledge of Windows 10

Familiarity with macOS X

Ability to communicate and document clearly

Ability to move computers, install cables, and move lightweight furniture

Ability to troubleshoot methodically
