Essential Job Duties:

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Overseeing the student career and professional development programming of the CALS Career Services office
  • Advising students in agriculture and life sciences on various aspects of the overall job search process, including resumes, cover letters, negotiations, interviewing, networking, professional presence, leadership skills, etc.
  • Conducting face-to-face and small group counseling sessions, small group workshops, and class and club presentations
  • Coordinating with faculty members and club representatives to promote and schedule presentations to classes and club meetings and specialized events for targeted student groups
  • Training and supervision of 1-2 graduate counseling interns each year – Overseeing management of the CALS Career Coach program
  • Assisting with the training and supervision of additional graduate and undergraduate workers
  • Promoting and managing student engagement with the Agriculture Future of America organization
  • Developing and presenting educational seminars, workshops, and class presentations on professional development and career-related topics
  • Developing career services resource materials to support student learning
  • Assisting with career services events as needed
  • Creating marketing and communications materials and messaging to promote services to students and employers
  • Coordinate with career partners around campus to provide assistance as needed and create and deliver occasional programming for students throughout the university
  • Assisting with other duties as needed

This position is funded from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022 and may be renewed pending performance and funding availability

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (some evenings/weekends required, willing to consider flex schedule and partial work-from-home options)

Other Work/Responsibilities:


Minimum Experience/Education:

-Masters in Counseling, Higher Education, or equivalent field completed by August 1, 2021, or Bachelors with 5+ years of related experience

Department Required Skills:

-Ability to assess impediments to successful career development and provide feedback
-Ability to provide customized career counseling to a wide variety of students in agriculture and the life sciences
-Substantive knowledge of career exploration and job search best practices
-Attention to detail
-Superior customer service
-Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
-Ability to work independently, but cooperatively in a team environment

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

-At least 200 hours of direct career counseling experience with undergraduate, graduate, and/or associate degree students
-Ability to supervise graduate counseling interns
-Experience coordinating and presenting career and professional development-related workshops and class presentations
-Experience working with agricultural and life science students
-Experience in communications and marketing
-Training in career coaching
-Experience with planning student development events
-Experience in developing and implementing new student services programs
-Supervision of student workers or volunteers
