Full-Time, Exempt, Administrative Staff Appointment

The program coordinator is an integral team member in the Pugh Center for Student Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This hands-on position provides direct support for the increasingly diverse Colby College community. Reporting to the associate dean and director of the Pugh Center, this position will assist with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Pugh Center and will coordinate and facilitate robust community-building programming and student engagement. This position will serve a critical role in developing strong interpersonal relationships with historically and systemically minoritized student communities such as students of color and first generation students while connecting them to campus resources.

The program coordinator is a 2-year term, full-time, 12-month position. We encourage inquiries from candidates who will contribute to the diversity of our College, including its cultural and ethnic diversity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programmatic Responsibilities

  • Develop curricula and programs related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
  • Advance student leadership in matters related to diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice
  • Assist in creating, planning, and facilitating programming for special events throughout the academic year.
  • Collaborate with the Residence Life Staff to engage student staff members and residents in programming, training, and dialogue related to diversity, inclusivity, and social justice
  • Assist with the facilitation of activities for students who remain in residence halls over break periods (fall break, thanksgiving, winter break, and spring break)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Administrative Duties

  • Intentionally create a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors at the Center
  • In collaboration with the associate dean, hire and supervise student staff; create staff schedules, advise program development, facilitate professional development, evaluate student job performance, manage time approvals, and lead staff meetings and team building activities
  • Assist the associate dean/director in the development and implementation of a marketing and communication plan that raises the visibility of the activities of the Center
  • Oversee the daily administrative operations for the Center, including monitoring and maintaining facility (e.g. club rooms, lobby spaces, kitchen facilities, library, and other resources)
  • Manage room reservation requests for the Center’s multiple spaces
  • Be a visible presence in the Pugh Center, including on nights and weekends as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
  • At least two years of experience in higher education or non-profit organizations
  • Experience working with students from historically underrepresented populations (students of color, first-generation, international students, LGBTQ students, undocumented, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a fast-paced working environment
  • Talent for successful event planning
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and human relations skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to student development; ability and willingness to work with a diverse, highly academic community
  • Commitment to building a meaningful and diverse community with a keen appreciation for a liberal arts education
  • Prior coursework/training related to college student development, diversity/social justice, gender/sexuality studies, ethnic studies international relations; and/or religious studies preferred
  • Experience using, developing, and managing social networking media, websites and the Microsoft Suite is strongly desired.
  • Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

This position interacts with students, faculty, staff, and outside constituencies

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Some weekend and evening hours required. Some travel may be necessary.
