Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the following position: Full-Time Golf Course Groundskeeper (Building/Grounds Specialist II) in The Sports Turf Department Golf Course Division. This position is responsible for the general maintenance and landscape of The Hackler Course. This position reports to the Golf Course Superintendent.

The General James Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University is owned and operated by Coastal Carolina University and the University’s PGA Golf Management Program. The 6,812 yard, par 72 course is located adjacent to the University and just a short drive from the beach. The clubhouse has a fully stocked golf shop with officially licensed Chanticleer apparel and a grill with a wide variety of breakfast and lunch entrees. The practice facility offers an all grass driving range, a 10,000 square foot putting green, a practice bunker, a learning center with V-1 and Trackman, a 3-hole short course, and a newly opened short game practice area.

The PGA Golf Management Program (PGM) is a part of the Wall College of Business and has been accredited by the PGA of America since 1999. There are currently 220 students in the Coastal Carolina PGM program who are seeking undergraduate degrees in Business Administration while completing all the of PGA’s membership requirements.

Duties include, but are not limited to: performing a wide variety of tasks related to the maintenance, and upkeep of the golf course; golf course setup, properly mow, edge, and trim lawns with appropriate tools with the safely knowledge to operate commercial mowing equipment in a busy campus setting by following accepted industry standards and procedures; set up tee markers and cups on greens daily; maintain ball washers; water and fertilize course as required; inspect all machines and report any deficiencies to the Equipment Technician; assist in project work including construction of new greens, tees and fairways; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED), at least six (6) months of experience in field maintenance and previous experience with turf, horticulture, and/or landscape maintenance are required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Prior trade school education and two (2) years’ experience in golf course equipment operation and routine manual labor in golf course maintenance is preferred. Qualified candidates should also possess: basic knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of tractors, and mowers of both diesel and gasoline equipment; the skill to use hand tools and power tools; and sound verbal and written communication skills. This position is labor intensive and should be able to lift 50 lbs. at any given time.
