Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor I, Jupiter, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage the coordination of proactive advising, Near Peer Mentoring, and the dual enrollment process for FAU High School students.
  • Provide consultation with K-12 school counselors, FAU High School staff and administration on an ongoing basis for alignment of processes and services.
  • Provide individual and group academic advising to assigned students.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students and parents to provide timely and effective advising, coaching, orientations and workshops.
  • Collaborate with University Advising Services to ensure alignment with University practices, policies and programs.
  • Monitor student academic plans to provide timely, proactive outreach to ensure high school and college degree requirements are met.
  • Reinforce academic success and retention in alignment with FAU and University strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with FAU High School to facilitate the on-boarding and course registration processes to include, but not limited to, registration and hold resolution, course overrides and withdrawals, and core curriculum completion checks.
  • Provide probation support and outreach including, but not limited to, facilitate parent and student meetings, access reports, and monitor data for trends and outcomes.
  • Support Transition to Faculty/College Advising.
  • Assist with administering online surveys relating to supporting academic preparation, and the social and emotional support of students.
  • Serve as advising liaison between FAU High, University of Advising Services, Wilkes Honors College, and Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience.
  • Attend staff meetings, College meetings and FAU High meetings/monthly grade level meetings to share updates, when needed.
  • Collaborate with high school staff to obtain full understanding of the high school requirements, policies and practices.
  • Participate in relevant professional learning.
  • Assist in the preparation and support of students for the transition into the university community.
  • Work collaboratively with other counselors, academic and school advisors, FAU High School staff, and University staff to coordinate the annual FAU High School student application, enrollment, selection and admission process.
  • Work and support undecided students, students in academic difficulty and students transitioning into their major of choice.
  • Conduct various types of presentations including parent meetings, grant meetings, student data meetings, information sessions and presentations to market, recruit and retain FAU High School students.
  • Collaborate with academic high school counselors to support completion of graduation requirements, assessments, community service requirements, and other academic-related tasks needed for graduation.
  • Assist in providing data for continuous improvement of processes and procedures, for evaluation of services, and for alignment to various approved grant initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

Proficient in working with computer programs specifically: Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, and Excel required.

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally required.

Working knowledge of the Appreciative Advising model preferred.

Experience with high achieving students at the high school and college levels preferred.

Understanding the Florida dual enrollment system and goals preferred.

Experience working in a student support role (i.e. advising, coaching, mentoring, tutoring etc.) preferred.

Salary:

$45,000 - $47,660
