Professional Research Assistant

We value the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds.Nature of WorkThe Professional Research Assistant will work within the Division of Family Planning, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The role will be to coordinate activities required to perform clinical protocols, recruit for clinical studies, schedule study participant clinic visits, accurately record and enter data, respond to data queries from study sponsors, and support physician investigators. This position requires that you work with other PRAs in the Division of Family Planning. Activities will be split between the Anschutz Medical Campus and the Lowry campus in Denver. The PRA in this position will not be called on to make independent medical decisions at any time, but a solid fundamental knowledge of biological and medical sciences is necessary for this position. Additionally, an appreciation of accepted methods of clinical research is highly desirable. Professional FieldWe require good clinical practice in the performance of clinical research for this job. Prior experience in research, preferably with human subjects, is also required. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be attentive to detail and be able to complete all required documentation (either manual or electronic) as required by the studies being performed. Supervision ReceivedThe Professional Research Assistant will be supervised and will report to Dr. Jeanelle Sheeder, research director of the Division of Family Planning. There will be regular meetings of the PRA with Dr. Sheeder and the other physician investigators. Formal discussions will be held every one to two weeks, though ad hoc discussions and supervision will be available virtually every day. The degree of active supervision will depend on the successful applicant’s background and experience in clinical research. Examples of Work PerformedSubject recruitment and retention, facilitate study visits and complete intake information, recording of clinical information, data entry, data query resolution and analyzation for submission to grantor or for publication, venipuncture, maintenance of certification and communication with the Institutional Review Board (COMIRB) and the sponsoring agency or its designee. Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesCareful attention to detail, ability to work independently, and to ability interact with both clinical research subjects and other health professionals is critical to success in this position. Factual and experiential knowledge will be important. However, those individuals with significant intellectual capacity and excellent factual knowledge can be successful in that experiential knowledge can accrue during the course of the job being performed. The individual must be able to utilize Windows-based computers for communication, data extraction, and completion of clinical reporting forms as required. Experience using Microsoft Office® including Excel® is essential and use of Microsoft Access® is preferred. Ability to perform venipuncture and vital signs is required. The individual hired in this position must be able to work with the research and clinical staff. Good communication skills are essential. Salary Range
The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $40,000 to $45,500 The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Minimum RequirementsThis position requires a bachelor’s degree. Previous experience in research is required. We prefer those with a working knowledge of COMIRB requirements and activities. Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred for this position. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
