Position Summary

Job duties may include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee operations of the department’s investigative unit
  • Oversee operations of the department’s patrol division
  • Oversees the police management of resources and services on campus.
  • Planning, logistics and implementation of assignments and strategies to ensure efficiency and safety for the MSU Campus.
  • Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

    Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Criminal Justice or Personnel Administration; five to eight years of progressively more responsible and expansive work experience as a command officer or supervisor with knowledge of criminal statutes, investigation and traffic laws; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience; certification by Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards; certification by Michigan State Police as breathalyzer operator, advanced first aid/CPR certification by American Red Cross.

    Desired Qualifications

    Applicants shall meet all minimum MCOLES Employment Standards for Michigan Law Enforcement Officers. Additionally, applicants: Must be either: Certified as a Police Officer in the State of Michigan Certifiable as a Police Officer in the State of Michigan, subject to verification or re-verification by a Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) approved training academy Currently enrolled in an MCOLES approved training academy and certifiable by date of hire. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a Bachelors Degree from an accredited higher education institution. Must not have any prior felony convictions (including expunged), domestic assaults, alcohol related arrests (Drunk & Disorderly, Open Intoxicants, Minor in Possession, Operating While Intoxicated, etc. within last two years), two or more misdemeanor appearances (within last five years). Must possess good moral character as determined by a favorable comprehensive background investigation covering but not limited to: Personal References, Prior Employment History, Professional References, Academic History, Financial History, Residence History, Extensive Records Check (locally, nationally and worldwide, if applicable), Military History (if applicable), Personal Conduct, and Moral Character.
