Distinguishing Career Features
The Clery Compliance Assistant is a short-term, non-bargaining unit assignment within the Campus Police Department. The position requires the ability to support the campus Clery Act compliance efforts.

Job Duties
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Facilitates and audits the College's Clery Compliance program including developing policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates training of key stakeholders on Clery Act requirements.
  • In conjunction with the applicable departments, ensures that Clery and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) related policies, procedures, programs, systems, and activities are developed, implemented, and maintained.
  • Collaborates with Campus Police, Student Services, the Title IX Coordinator, and Human Resources to ensure compliance with Clery, Title IX, and VAWA.
  • Maintains updated and current list of Campus Security Authorities (CSA) as related to the Clery Act. Provides, facilitates, or manages the training of Campus Security Authorities.
  • Oversees the CSA online reporting system to ensure timely reporting of crimes.
  • Ensures accurate Clery geography is maintained to facilitate correct and complete recording of Clery crime statistics by Campus Police.
  • Works with Campus Police to ensure compliance with crime disclosure requirements, both Clery crime statistics and daily crime log. Assists with the College's Timely Warning and Emergency Notification program.
  • Assists the Campus Police with annual earthquake and evacuation drills and documents all drills in accordance with Clery requirements.
  • Ensures the Annual Security Report (ASR) properly reflects compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Safe Campus regulations.
  • Stays abreast of changes to the Clery Act, VAWA, and other laws or regulations affecting assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Serves as the records custodian for Clery Act compliance records.
  • Supports the preparation, publication, and distribution of the Annual Security Report.
  • Attends required trainings.

    Physical Demand
    The position incumbent must be able to function indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. This position requires the physical ability to move about campus and to classroom-type locations and to stand and present. Requires ambulatory ability to sit for extended periods of time, to utilize microcomputers and peripheral equipment, accomplish other desktop work, and to move to various district locations. Requires the ability to use near vision to read printed materials and view a computer screen. Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to project voice to small and large audiences. Requires the ability to retrieve work materials from overhead, waist, and ground level files. Requires manual and finger dexterity to write, use a pointing device and keyboard at an advanced rate, operate microcomputer, and use other standardized office equipment.

    Conditions of Employment:

    These positions are temporary short-term, not to exceed 25 hours/week, 950 hours/year, and 175 days/year. Assignments are based on District needs.

    Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the State Department of Justice, produce an original social security card, and submit negative TB test results (must be within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a school district in California) before employment.

    Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per Government Codes 3100-3109.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and Experience
    Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent, plus at least one semester of postsecondary course work in social services, compliance, law enforcement, higher education or related field and/or three years paid or volunteer experience working in community based educational programs.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in social services, compliance, law enforcement. higher education or related field and/or three years paid or volunteer experience working in community based educational programs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel). Strong general computing skills related to data entry, assembling statistical data, and formatting information for surveys and reports. Excellent attention to detail and strong ability to curate vast amounts of information with accuracy and speed.

    The Cerritos College Police Department is comprised of 13 sworn police officers and a civilian support staff of about 30 employees. The college has approximately 1,200 part - and full-time employees on a 135 acre campus. The department is committed to providing services which support and enhance student success in a safe campus environment. The Campus Police Department is responsible for the safety and security of all District properties; the faculty, staff, and student body; and guests and visitors during assigned shifts. The Campus Police Department is responsible for patrolling District buildings, grounds, and adjacent public areas to enforce the California Vehicle, Penal, Education and other relevant codes, as well as District regulations.

    The Clery Compliance Assistant is a nonsworn position and is responsible for the implementation and interpretation of applicable federal, state, and campus policies and regulations. The position works collaboratively with various offices at the College to ensure the institution's compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (The Clery Act) and associated regulations. The Clery Compliance Assistant provides support, leadership, and coordination for the development and implementation of Clery compliance efforts, including but not limited to training, research, analysis, outreach and record maintenance. The Clery Compliance Assistant is responsible for managing the preparation of required reports such as the Annual Security Report (ASR) and related documents and communications. This work also involves interactions within and outside the College with exposure to highly sensitive/confidential information and the need to handle sensitive interpersonal situations.

    The successful candidate will perform the duties of the position with ethics and integrity and assistance with the development and improvement of mechanisms to create and enhance relationships between the Department and the campus community.
