The Position:
Under direction of the Dean for the School of Business, Technical Careers, and Workforce Initiatives, the Associate Dean for Career Education will develop, align, and oversee workforce development programs and services related to the Strong Workforce Program, Carl D. Perkins Act, and other grants and projects. This position will also oversee Career Services and other activities that enhance the college's ability to respond to the needs of students and industries served by San Diego Miramar College.


Major Responsibilities:
The Associate Dean for Career Education will work alongside the Dean of Business, Technical Careers, and Workforce Initiatives for responsibility of administrative, academic, and fiscal matters pertaining to Career Education. This position will also provide leadership and support by working towards ongoing improvement and development of Miramar College’s Career Education programs and Career Center. The Associate Dean for Career Education will ensure the college operates effectively and efficiently towards meeting the expected outcomes related to the San Diego Miramar College mission, strategic plan, program review, accreditation, and student success metrics. This position will also perform needs analyses, labor market surveys, and other pertinent research to help identify viable and sustainable courses and programs that will benefit students and industry, in addition to working collaboratively with deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff.

The Associate Dean will supervise all operational functions of the Strong Workforce Program, Perkins, and other grants and projects including the development and management of annual work-plans, budgets, and preparation of multiple reports in accordance with regional, state and federal requirements/regulations; evaluate SWP program performance in areas of enrollment, completion, transfer and employment outcomes; oversee processes to collect, track and monitor metrics across instructional programs; work with Career Education faculty to develop new curriculum and programs in new and emerging occupational areas; develop and implement effective marketing and outreach activities; assist in the coordination of industry advisory activities; and participate in local, regional, and statewide workforce development meetings, conferences, and related activities. Additional duties will include: supervise career services faculty and staff; work collaboratively with administrators, faculty and staff, from Instruction and Student Services; design, identify and provide joint professional development to enhance the integration of career services and work-based learning across programs and services; and serve as the coordinator for the work-based learning, student employment, career ambassador, and work experience programs. The incumbent will also be expected to serve on district, college, or other committees as assigned.


Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
In compliance with policies adopted by the Board of Trustees, applicants for this position must show evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Possession of a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution AND one (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s assignment; OR,

  2. Possession of a lifetime California Community College Supervisor Credential.


Desired Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge in working with faculty, staff, and students of great diversity in socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
2. Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
3. Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and success coordinating Career Education programs and related economic and workforce development projects and activities, such as Strong Workforce, Perkins, and DAS-approved apprenticeships.
4. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other administrators, faculty and staff, to develop local and regional Strong Workforce plans and other Career and Technical Education and Workforce Development plans.
5. Demonstrated ability and experience in managing grant-funded programs and projects including grant metric evaluations, fiscal/budget development and oversight, and the reporting of grant outcomes.
6. Demonstrated management experience in hiring, supervising, evaluating, and disciplining faculty and classified staff.
7. Demonstrated ability to collect, retrieve, and interpret various data to inform Career Education programs.
8. Demonstrated experience providing administrative and technical support to career education faculty with the development of new programs and curriculum.
9. Demonstrated experience directing and/or implementing career services such as employment readiness, career assessment, internship development, and job placement.
10. Demonstrated experience working with participatory governance.
11. Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining professional, community, and industry partnerships, including industry advisory boards and regional workforce development partnerships.
12. Demonstrated marketing experience promoting and communicating Career Education programs to the college, district, K-12 partners, and to external community organizations.


Licenses:


Pay Information:
Range 16 ($7,929.06- $12,682.36) per month based on the current Management Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the Management Employees Handbook. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime.
