Professional Lecturer (non-tenure track)
DePaul University’s College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) School of Design (SoD) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Instructor of Design to begin in fall of 2021. Job responsibilities include teaching, service, and continued professional development.
Located in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant Loop, the School of Design, which launched in 2015, offers a learning environment that nurtures the development of new kinds of designers: flexible, interdisciplinary, life-long learners trained as collaborative problem seekers and solvers.
Graduates are capable of integrating existing and cutting-edge technologies and social practices into visualizations, games, apps, products, processes, and experiences that positively impact society. Qualified candidates should have a graduate degree (MFA, MDes, or equivalent) or bachelor’s degree and professional equivalence in a related field with a proven commitment to quality teaching at the undergraduate level. Record of professional practice and/or research/creative activity is required. Successful applicants will be able to teach theoretical and practical hands-on courses, will have industry and/or academic experience, and are motivated to work with faculty and students on building curriculum, leading school-wide initiatives, and/or participating on collaborative projects.
We are seeking candidates with expertise in areas related to graphic design and game design in one or more of the following areas:
- design methods including design research, concepting, and experimentation
- systems thinking and systems design
- interface or product design (including screen or physical interfaces, emerging technology, haptics, digital fabrication, etc.)
- digital design (design across media and mode)
- visual communication including 2D/3D typography, animation, or illustration
- creative programming such as Processing/p5.js or openFrameworks
- game development platforms such as Unity
- narrative storytelling and worldbuilding

Specifically, the School of Design is working to develop curricula that addresses diversity and anti-racism and responds to contemporary industry trends, societal issues, and dynamic, intersecting design disciplines.
