Job Description

This is a 1-year non-tenure track, Assistant Clinical Professor, Educational Psychology, academic year position based in Flagstaff, Arizona in the Department of Educational Psychology. The appointment will begin Fall 2021 academic semester. This is a one-year academic appointment.

The Department of Educational Psychology is part of the College of Education and offers Master’s degrees in School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Student Affairs Counseling, Human Relations, a PhD in Combined Counseling/School Psychology, a PsyD in Clinical Psychology, and an EdS in School Psychology. Instruction is offered via in-person, blended, and on-line modalities. The Department of Educational Psychology has statewide locations that also offer accredited programs. The Department of Educational Psychology (EPS) is seeking to fill an Assistant Clinical Professor, Educational Psychology position at our Flagstaff Mountain campus beginning in August 2021. The EPS Department seeks candidates who possess innovative instructional methodology, experience in research and supervision, and diverse experiences and professional proficiencies. Additional expectations include excellence in teaching and mentoring diverse students. The position is a 9-month non-tenure-track faculty line.

Responsibilities:

1. Teach undergraduate and graduate classes with an educational psychology focus for the EPS programs. Possible course assignments include, but are not limited to: Educational Psychology for Educators, Human Development, Self-Management Techniques, Educational Psychology Applied to Learning, or Tests and Measurements
2. Teach in-person, with some blended or online courses to students in Flagstaff and to extended campus sites
3. Assist in recruiting and advising educational psychology students
4. Fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, university, and the profession

Minimum Qualifications

1. Earned Doctorate in Educational Psychology or related field by date of hire
2. College teaching experience (can include college teaching as a graduate assistant)

Preferred Qualifications

1. Two or more years of relevant undergraduate or graduate level teaching experience in the area of educational psychology, or related field
2. Ability/experience or strong interest in recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students
3. Ability/experience working with graduate students on research projects, presentations, and publications
4. Ability or strong interest in working with distance technologies, such as web-based instruction
5. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with department chairs, other program directors/coordinators, faculty, staff, students, and associated members of the professional community
6. Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds, including rural and southwest populations
7. Evidence of a strong professional identity, and an active involvement or leadership roles in educational psychology related professional associations, such as AERA or APA

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus and NAU-Fort Defiance as these campuses have on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary

$60,000 - $62,000 – Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment.

If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
