Position Summary:

This position will carry out urgent research on the population biology of respiratory viruses, including influenza and SARS-CoV-2. It is funded by the newly formed Center for Influenza Disease and Emergence Research, part of the National Institutes of Health network of centers of excellence in influenza research. The position is limited by the terms of the funding agreement. The postdoc will liaise between two labs to develop multiscale models of virus pathogenesis, transmission and disease.

Duties will consist of:
- Developing mathematical and computational models of disease transmission
- Exploration of within-host data from laboratory animal challenge experiments
- Examination of current and historical incidence records
- Statistical analysis and inference using model-based data analysis
- Communicating regularly and in a timely fashion with the Pl and CIDER team regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory
- Timely writing of scientific papers
- Assisting with the daily operations of the laboratory
- Attend lab meetings and departmental seminars
- Assisting with the supervision of the other members of the laboratory – Will communicate effectively in person and via electronic means.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

PhD in a highly quantitative discipline, including mathematica ecology/epidemiology, physics, mathematics, computer science, or engineering.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

Computer programming languages (C++, python), Dynamical Systems theory, and statistics.

Physical Demands:

Long hours working in front of a computer screen. Potential domestic and/or international travel.
