CAPS is integrated within the Center for Health and Wellbeing (CHWB) which includes Student Health Services, Athletic Medicine, and Education/Outreach (Living Well).

We are seeking professionals with well-developed therapeutic skills, ability to carry a diverse clinical caseload, and experience and interest in supervision. Ideal applicants should be energetic professionals with the skills and creativity to share our commitment to improving the health of UVM students. We recognize that many factors contribute to a person’s health including, but not limited to, the environment, family, ethnicity, income, race, gender, socioeconomic status, education, nationality, and sexual orientation. Oppression and health are intricately connected. As we move forward in our work, public health professionals must reevaluate strategies to address and reduce health disparities, including disparities within the system itself. Our goal for the Center for Health and Wellbeing (CHWB) is to dismantle prejudice, racism, and inequality in public health through educated, culturally attuned healthcare providers.

The ideal candidate exhibits flexibility in both their therapeutic and collegial style, and thrives in the fast paced and cyclical nature of a college counseling center. This is primarily a clinically focused position that requires the ability to juggle various responsibilities, including managing a heavy caseload comprised of students with a wide range of clinical severity within a brief treatment frame.

Responsibilities: Provide Individual, couples, and group counseling with students. Stay current with best practices in college mental health. Participate in supervision of graduate trainees, provide crisis intervention/response, consult with faculty and staff, and engage in campus outreach and program development. Embody and enact an anti-oppression and social justice approach in all requisite duties and responsibilities as a staff member of Counseling and Psychiatry Services (CAPS).

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or equivalent. Vermont licensed or eligible for licensure required within two years of start. Experience working with college age population, preferably within a university setting, or equivalent. Clear evidence of a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. Ability to enthusiastically support UVM’s commitment to enhance a diverse campus culture and inclusive student experience.

Desired Qualifications: Strong preference will be given to licensed counselors with a minimum of two years of clinical experience in a college counseling setting. Other desired qualifications include clinical supervision experience, group counseling experience, training in short-term treatment modalities, EMDR certification, ability to provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
