Advertised Job Summary:

In the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will investigate catalyst-electrode structures for anion exchange membrane electrolyzers. The overarching goal of the work is to enable, for the first time, electrolyzers that have high performance and excellent longevity. Job duties include (1) performing collaborative research in preparation, characterization and testing of membrane electrode assemblies for alkaline membrane electrolyzers; (2) conducting literature searches for technical information relevant to the alkaline membrane electrolyzer materials research undertaken; (3) preparing and assisting in making research reports and proposals, manuscripts for publication in professional journals, as well as presentations for meetings and conferences; (4) presenting and discussing the outcomes of the undertaken research in group settings, project meetings with the sponsor, internal team meetings, and one-on-one meetings with the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Ph.D. with a thesis focus on electrochemical engineering related work

Previous experience in the assembly and testing of membrane electrode assemblies

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with catalyst synthesis and evaluation

Previous experience in polymer synthesis

Previous experience with the synthesis of Pt-group metal free catalysts

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.

Materials characterization techniques – SEM, TEM, XRD, etc.

Electrochemical data collection and analysis – deconvoluting polarization curves, voltammetry, rotating disk electrode, EIS, etc.
