Position Information:

The North Dakota Small Business Development Centers is a partnership between the federal government (U.S. Small Business Administration), State of North Dakota (Commerce Department) and North Dakota University System (University of North Dakota). The ND SBDC provides advising, training, and technical assistance to small businesses and entrepreneurs across the state, and is the outreach program of the University of North Dakota Nistler College of Business & Public Administration. The ND SBDC Lead Center and its staff provide leadership, supervision, service, and support for the ND SBDC network, program and staff; and communicates and coordinates with partner entities, stakeholders, advocates, and other interested parties. There are currently nine ND SBDC service center locations across the state.

This technical assistant will support the ND SBDC network, working closely with advisors from several locations to provide research and financial documentation prep/review for various client projects. The position may be asked to participate in special projects as assigned, and produce reports and deliverables as it pertains to program goals. 

Duties & Responsibilities

    Prepare and review client documentation, suggest improvements to business plans, including financial statements/projections, and operating plans, by applying basic business knowledge in areas of: operations, finance, marketing, management, and human resourcesCalculating and interpreting historical and projected financial ratios, preparing pro forma cash flow and financial statements; troubleshooting to identify problems and areas for improvementPerform market and industry research to assist in determining target markets, business viability, and creating marketing plans and making suggestions for branding, social media and communications channelsCollaborate and work closely with staff and other students and interns on special projectsAccurate and timely reporting of any client contact and preparation time and activities, and program impacts using designated database management system, contribute to the collection of data for annual or periodic reporting required by the program or its stakeholdersCommunicate and comply with SBDC and UND policy and procedures as related to the program, including confidentiality and conflict of interest requirements

Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or related fieldUnderstanding of accounting principles and ability to work with balance statements, cash flow, and historical financial reportsPrior experience in a related professional setting is preferredExperience in small business or family business a plusAdvanced knowledge of computers: hardware and software (specifically with Microsoft application including Outlook and Adobe), general office equipment such as printers, copiers, multi-line phoneExcellent organization/prioritization skills, strong professional oral and written communication skills, this position requires candidate to be public relations focused, and detail orientedDemonstrated ability to work both independently under supervision and as part of a collaborative team is essentialSuccessful completion of criminal history records check.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$25/hr
