Procurement Specialist I: University Housing

Regular; Full-time MR10

The Procurement Specialist coordinates and executes all purchasing related activities for the Department of University Housing including, but not limited to:  maintenance and custodial supplies and equipment, office supplies, and computer hardware/software.

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for developing bid specifications and documentation for the aforementioned items.  In addition, the Procurement Specialist reviews and analyzes vendor bid submittals, develops bid award recommendations, and coordinates the contract renewal process for a variety of supply/materials/software contracts in which the department of University Housing is a party. 

The Procurement Specialist serves as primary liaison between the Department of University Housing, UT Purchasing Department, UT Office of the Treasurer, and the UT Office of General Council in matters related to purchasing and service contracts.

The Procurement Specialist will hire/train/manage/evaluate program resource specialist responsible for assisting with procurement of supplies, materials, and equipment for University Housing custodial, maintenance, and administrative operations

Required Qualifications:


Associates degree


3 years of purchasing experience in a large, complex, organization or 7 years’ experience in purchasing or a related field.

Preferred experience:

Bachelor's degree and 3 years’ experience in the construction trades, building maintenance, and custodial operations; 3 years of purchasing experience within the aforementioned areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to work with diverse constituencies; Ability to effectively utilize computer technology including Microsoft Office suite of products; Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment; Ability to be detail oriented; Ability to work with minimal supervision; Thorough knowledge of institutional and state purchasing policies and procedures.
