Washington College (WC) invites applications, nominations and expressions of interest in the position of President

Washington College’s next president will be a strategic visionary who can focus on student-centered academic excellence and co-curricular engagement. Founded in 1782 with founding support from George Washington, WC is a distinguished, private liberal arts college with an attractive 4,700-acre rural campus in Chestertown, Maryland.

Notably ranked by U.S. News as one of the top National Liberal Arts Colleges, Washington College fosters a high-touch and personalized environment for approximately 1,100 diverse and talented undergraduate students aimed at expanding each student’s talent and potential. Its small size presents students with a rare opportunity to enjoy a close-knit community atmosphere while its academic breadth enables students to choose from a wide variety of pursuits, both inside and outside the classroom.

With 30 undergraduate majors and 37 minors offered by 120 full-time faculty and 300 dedicated staff, WC is well-positioned to educating the whole student in intensely personal, important ways. The low student-to-faculty ratio allows for faculty to work closely with the students in class, labs and guided research. The university offers a myriad of experiential learning opportunities, including field experiences, student teaching, engineering design projects, and internships at a network of more than 1,000 companies and organizations across the country. In addition, the welcoming campus climate offers students many community activities, leadership opportunities and athletics.

Washington College is poised and eager to build on its foundational, historic roots as it looks to the future. The next leader of this prestigious institution will create a robust vision to determine its strategic direction. The successful candidate will possess a deep belief in the mission of Washington College and its core values shared by its founder, George Washington.

The successful candidate must embrace and respect WC's pedigreed history and the passion its alumni hold for their alma mater. This leader, working with a team of dedicated faculty and staff as well as committed members of the Board of Visitors and Governors, will be an inspiring fundraiser, a committed advocate for social justice and internal and external community engagement, and a champion of transparency, collaboration, and the overall mission of the College.
