Position Summary:UNC Center for Health Equity Research is a vibrant intellectual home for health equity research and innovation at UNC-Chapel Hill and aims for global recognition of its role as a leader in the field. The work of the Center will bring together scholars, trainees and community members from diverse disciplines to form collaborative multidisciplinary teams with a shared commitment to health equity, innovation and translational research. This shared commitment will serve as a bridge among their disciplines and levels of experience. Center members will generate new knowledge and contribute to the science of health equity research thus driving innovation in collaboration with underserved communities to improve health.
The Center for Health Equity Research is located at the UNC Department of Social Medicine in the School of Medicine.
The Center Director is Giselle Corbie-Smith, MD, MSc. The Center’s core programmatic areas will serve as initial areas of program emphasis which include: Advancing the methods, metrics and analytic frameworks used in health equity research, engaged scholarship and community based participatory research; Policy relevant patient and community centered outcomes research to advance equity and quality of healthcare in underserved populations; Developing, testing, and disseminating interventions to achieve health equity; Translating discoveries in health equity research into social enterprise and innovation.
The Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), in partnership with the Center for Health Equity Research at UNC-Chapel Hill and Community-Campus Partnerships for Health, has received an $80 million award to serve as the Coordinating and Data Collection Center (CDCC) for a program that will overcome barriers and increase uptake of testing among underserved and vulnerable populations across the U.S. The program is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is one arm of a wider effort called Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx). The arm to be coordinated by this project is called Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics for Underserved Populations (RADx-UP). The RADx-UP program will support research that aims to better understand COVID-19 testing patterns among underserved and vulnerable populations; strengthen the data on disparities in infection rates, disease progression, and outcomes; and develop strategies to reduce the disparities in COVID-19 testing.
The Program Leader will lead, develop, coordinate, and implement research and administrative strategies essential to the successful management of multiple community engaged research projects across multiple locations, time zones, and populations. The Program Leader will lead four Engagement Impact Teams that will provide coordination across the CDCC for community engaged research project activities and ensure seamless integration of teams for rapid, focused, and informed decision-making. The Program Leader will help identify barriers to project completion and possible solutions for successful completion of each of the multiple assigned projects.
Educational Requirements:Master’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned; or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and three years or more of research/analysis, preferably with one year in a supervisory role
Qualifications and Experience:Must have extensive project and/or program management experience. Must have broad knowledge of research regulations and best practices. Must have demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems independently. The position requires significant attention to detail and strong ability to balance multiple priorities. Must be able to work and communicate with diverse populations effectively and professionally. The Program Leader must also possess leadership skills and have ability to inspire motivation and a positive work culture. Must be with proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Preferred graduation from an accredited degree program providing clinical training as a Registered Nurse (RN), Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Pharmacist plus three years of healthcare experience, or one of the following equivalents: 1. Completion of an allied health degree (e.g., Respiratory Therapy, Radiologic Technology, Licensed Practical Nurse) plus a minimum of six years healthcare experience; or 2.Completion of a master’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration or a related area with two years directly related community engaged, social science, or clinical trials research experience; or 3.Completion of a bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of four years directly related experience in community engaged, social science or clinical trials research; or 4. Completion of a bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five years closely related experience.
Preferred prior experience in line management or leading a multidisciplinary team.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
