Required Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality
Willingness and ability to work with research animals
Ability to use sound judgement and work independently
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databasesResponsibilities The primary responsibilities of the research associate will be to support the PI by maintaining and breeding transgenic mice, performing tissue culture and molecular biology procedures, developing protocols and data analysis to discover new therapies for sickle cell disease. The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Participate in project planning and development of protocols.
  • Maintaining transgenic mouse colonies including breeding and genotyping; conduct in vivo preclinical drug studies by intraperitoneal and intra-tail vein injections, collect samples and perform analysis, collect data and present results in lab meeting and upon request. Contribute to writing papers and data analysis for peer-reviewed publications. Participate in lab meetings and present progress.
  • Perform cell-based or molecular studies in primary mammalian cells, cell lines, and animal models.
  • Competent in performing protein analysis by western blot and flow cytometry. Perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA, RNA isolation and analysis by real-time PCR.
  • Cross cover Lab manager with maintaining lab supplies, equipment repair, shipping packages, maintain computers and various databases, updating biosafety and animal protocol as needed, and cleanliness of the lab. Maintain lab records, frozen stocks, of cells and work with patient samples.
  • Train student learners in lab.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Shift/Salary Shift: Days/M-F, Work outside of the normal business hours may be required.
