03-May-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe University of Colorado and our Residential Experience & Services (RES) team now encourages applications for an Assistant Director of Community Operations! This position is responsible for the overall management of an undergraduate residence hall(s) of up to 2000 students in a large housing operation. The main responsibilities of this position include the facilitation of student leadership, human resource management, strategic planning, leadership, assessment, operations, administration, fiscal management, and crisis response. In addition, the position will collaborate closely with a Residential Academic Program (RAP) or Living Learning Community (LLC). The Assistant Director directly supervise 1-4 Hall directors and 1 Senior Community Center Coordinator, as well as indirectly supervises 5 Community Center Coordinators and 50+ student staff members in multiple capacities.

  • Directly supervise 1-4 professional master’s level hall directors, 1 Senior Community Center Coordinator, and indirectly supervises 5 Community Center Coordinators, and 50+ student staff members in multiple capacities.
  • Provide vision, direction, and support for the staff that manage Bear Creek, an upper class apartment community for approximately 1000 students.
  • Assist the implementation of processes to recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate highly hardworking, student affairs focused staff at all position levels of Residence Life.
  • Conduct intentional performance reviews for professional staff and maintain ongoing accountability passionate about learning.
  • Assist professional staff to build inclusive and caring relationships with student staff and students within the residential community.
Operations & Administration:
  • Guide the residence life initiatives to create a seamless operational and administrative environment that exceeds student needs and expectations.
  • Chair departmental committees and represent the department to the university and Boulder community committees as assigned.
  • Management of move-in, admission days, break coverage, and hall closing.
  • Co-lead all Community Center Operations committee, responsible for community staff training and selection processes.
  • Co-manage departmental Customer service initiatives.
  • Serves as a residence life liaison to maintenance, environmental services, dining services, reservations, and finance units.
  • Serves as a liaison with Occupancy Management.
  • Management of the Residence Life Manuals and Standard Operation Procedures.
  • Assist with facility concern in residence halls.
External Relations:
  • Provide excellent support and leadership to all external partners through service minded attention to the broader housing, student affairs, and university missions.
  • Serve and lead student affairs committees as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners to coordinate high impact events.
  • Work with parents regarding concerns for students in the halls.
  • Assist with Orientation.
  • Assist with conference services.
  • Serve as a departmental liaison to Access Services, the Buff OneCard office, and Integrated Security.
Strategic Planning:
  • Support the development and furthering of the organizational philosophy, mission, and programs within Residence Life.
  • Assist the development, implementation, and interpretation of benchmarking and community surveys for residence life.
  • Assist in the development and provide leadership for completion of residence life strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Act as representative of Residence Life, Housing & Dining Services, and student affairs on campus.
  • Participate in vision creation, resources, and strategic implementation in the Residence Life strategic planning process.
  • Provide outstanding leadership for all professional and student staff, strategic planning, implementation, and assessment, all assigned initiatives, and all committee work in Residence Life, Housing & Dining Services, and the Division of Student Affairs.
Co-Curricular and Student Leadership:
  • Assist in programs that accelerate the academic, interpersonal/ behavioral, citizenship, and leadership skills for all resident students at the university.
  • Assist in the development, articulation, and implementation a student development model for the residence halls.
  • Advocate student concerns to the university and community populations.
  • Assist in campus retention and enrollment management efforts.
Fiscal Resource Management:
  • Administrate all fiscal processes with maximum integrity and timeliness.
  • Follow all federal, state, university and departmental budget procedures.
  • Assist in managing the residence life budgets.
  • Allocate budget dollars to support central initiatives.
Emergency Response:
  • Serve in an on-call rotation for 7,000+ residents.
  • Provide crisis management assistance and follow up.
  • Provide crisis management assistance through immediate response and follow up.
  • Uphold departmental and university crisis response policies and procedures.
What We Can Offer
  • The hiring pay rate for this position is $62,000.

  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field, equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 3 years of progressive student affairs/academic experience upon hire. Experience must also demonstrate responsible organizational authority in a residence life/housing program.
What You Will Need
  • Operational knowledge of technology, computer programs, and budget development.
