JOB SUMMARY

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is actively recruiting for a Research Communications Coordinator (Publicity/Marketing Coordinator) to support OVPR research publicity, marketing, and communications and outreach initiatives. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Research Administration and Development, this position is responsible for the development and distribution of strategic research communications and related activities, requiring technical and professional expertise in writing, editing; marketing, publicity and business communications; website management; conceptualization and production of promotional materials; and integration and dissemination of information/outreach across a variety of social media and other appropriate platforms/mechanisms.

The Research Communications Coordinator must be an energetic, creative, and dedicated contributor who is accessible and responsive to faculty, staff, and students, and fosters collaboration and an organizational culture that promotes diversity and inclusion. Experience in higher education, research development, technology commercialization, and industry relations are a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates, prepares, and disseminates research communications in a variety of formats that align with the mission of the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR).
  • Prepares news releases, reports, informational materials, presentations, and other communications to promote UConn research with internal and external constituencies.
  • Manages social media platforms for the OVPR and makes data-driven recommendations for new content and strategies.
  • Provides OVPR website maintenance and creation, as directed. Tracks and interprets digital analytics data and prepares data-driven recommendations to enhance publicity activities.
  • Provides guidance to OVPR units on issues related to communications, such as brand standards.
  • May be responsible for coordinating or conducting promotional events, workshops, seminars or training inclusive of administrative tasks, such as scheduling and logistics.
  • May supervise student support staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and two to three years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of marketing and professional communications strategies.
  3. Excellent organizational and project management skills, with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  4. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  5. Excellent accuracy and attention to formatting and detail.
  6. Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, with experience working collaboratively with a diverse constituency.
  7. Demonstrated initiative and ability to independently resolve problems and function effectively in ambiguous situations, requiring the exercise of significant judgment and discretion.
  8. Proficiency with professional/business programs and tools used for communication and reporting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of communications strategies related to higher education and the promotion of research.
  3. Knowledge of university brand standards.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position and with an excellent benefits package including medical and retirement, as well as employee and dependent tuition waivers at the University of Connecticut. Salaries typically start at the minimum of the P3 salary band and range to the mid-point for progressively experienced candidates.
