Position Summary:

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) in the Samueli School of Engineering is a diverse, fast-growing community of 31 full-time faculty, and 9-affiliates, with numerous nationally and internationally recognized with honors and awards. There are dozens of professional researchers, 175+ graduate students, and over 1243+ undergraduates in nationally and international recognized programs. With a multitude of national recognitions, MAE is highly ranked by US News and World Report for its Undergraduate and Graduate academic programs. MAE has five major research thrusts with approximately $4.8M of related research expenditures; six-world class center affiliations and an impressive list corporate affiliates.

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is a critical position providing leadership in the management of financial, personnel, student affairs, facilities, administrative and research operations for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering. The CAO provides daily management and oversight of an administrative team including Instructional Lab Support, Payroll/Personnel. Facilities, Financial and Business Operations, and Graduate Student Support. The management functions are highly complex, encompassing teaching, extensive research and outreach components. As the CAO of this highly productive and, multidisciplinary department; the incumbent will also serve as principal spokesperson and interacts with School, campus senior management and outside constituents concerning its direction, goals and objectives.

Compensation Range:

Monthly $6,783.33 - $9,333.33

10 years of experience with BA/BS / equivalent experience.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Broad knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management and / or personnel management under labor contract(s) and personnel policy.

Possess effective supervisory skills with the ability to coach, mentor and develop staff.

Broad knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources (staff and academic programs) and risk management planning; and / or accounting and payroll.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence / persuade all levels of employees.

Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities. Proven ability to organize department work functions in an efficient and effective manner.

Broad knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.

Skills to work collaboratively with other locations and stakeholders.

Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution.

Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others.

Experience in planning, analyzing and managing diverse fields such as: organizational growth and development, policy, space, information systems, and workflow systems while considering a wide variety of objective and subjective variables.

Ability to develop quantitative and qualitative methodologies, strategies, and evaluative criteria in order to independently solve complex problems under a variety of uncertain conditions.

Demonstrated ability to prepare and write comprehensive programmatic reports and studies. Skilled in computer-based management productivity tools such as spreadsheet analysis and database management in the administration of departmental activities and planning.


Working knowledge and experience using the UPATH payroll platform
