Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Department of Communication and Media at Lamar University invites nominations and applications for a full-time assistant/associate professor to teach undergraduate courses in broadcasting/ broadcast journalism and graduate courses in communication theory, media industries, and digital media. The position will start August 23, 2021.

About the Department of Communication and Media: With 280 students, the Department of Communication and Media is the largest department in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, and broadcasting is one of the largest campus-based sequences. Our students produce LUTV News, a biweekly newscast, and LUTV News and its news reporters have garnered awards in student and professional competitions from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association, the Houston Press Club, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Press Club of Southeast Texas. Broadcast students also work and volunteer with the campus radio station and for Lamar Athletics. The broadcast facilities include a television studio, a multimedia production lab, and two computer labs.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

About the Position: We hope that the incoming assistant/associate professor is willing and able to help grow the major as well as provide continuity and stability to the undergraduate major and teach at the graduate level.

Experience with teaching and researching sports broadcasting, Spanish language broadcasting/media production, virtual or augmented reality, social media reporting, and/or audio/radio/podcast production would be a plus.

Ph.D., MSJ, or M.F.A. in journalism, broadcasting, creative arts, or a related area with professional broadcast journalism or creative broadcast media experience required.

Candidates who are ABD can apply but if awarded the position will need to complete their Ph.D. by September 2022. A demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds is required.

Clear evidence of effective teaching and commitment to undergraduate education; scholarly/creative productivity; participation in advising/mentoring, recruitment, service, and committee work also required.

The ability to shoot/edit video and experience in broadcasting is required.
