Schedule: Friday evening and Saturday or Sunday all day, 15 hours per week

The Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator (Instructional Support Technician IV in the PCC Classification system) collaborates closely with the Education Coordinator to evaluate the instructional needs of students, assign appropriate subject areas using education software (i.e Aztec Learning System), work with students individually and in groups, and monitor student progress, assigning new subject areas as needed.

Another important component to the position is the recruiting, training, supervising, and mentoring of adult in custody (AIC) peer-tutors assigned to ABE/GED students. There is ongoing collaboration with tutors and the Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator regarding lesson planning, educational strategies, educational resources and the readiness of students to test (both CASAS and GED).

The position is responsible for the general cleanliness and security of the lab in cooperation with DOC security and security plus staff, providing a safe environment and reporting security and/or maintenance problems as they occur.

South Fork Forest Camp (SFFC) is a minimum-security work camp located approximately 28 miles east of Tillamook, just off of Highway 6 along the Wilson River Highway. SFFC was established in 1951 and is a satellite facility to Columbia River Correctional Institution (CRCI), a minimum-security facility located in Portland. SFFC is managed jointly with the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).

Duties:

Computer Lab:
1. Conduct adult in custody student program in a correctional facility.
2. Schedule and coordinate student activities in the computer lab.
3. Assist students in the use of computer hardware and software
(Aztec Learning Systems, keyboarding, and MS Office applications).
4. Administer education software (Aztec Learning Systems).
5. Maintain student attendance and progress records.
6. Coordinate the maintenance of the lab computers and software.
7. Cultivate student persistence in computer lab classes and activities.

Tutor Program:
1. Recruit, interview, train and manage adult in custody (AIC )tutors.
2. Supervise the scheduling of approximately 15 students and 3 tutors.
3. Review, select, and update curriculum used by tutors.
4. Conduct regular meetings to facilitate efficient communication and coordination of work efforts among AIC tutors and staff.
5. Handle disciplinary issues among AIC tutors and students.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of post-secondary education in computer systems and applications (relevant experience may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis).

Three years of experience in computer systems and applications are required.

Must have proven written and oral communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform. Proven ability to lead others and evaluate performance. Depending on laboratory assignment, some positions may also require specialized knowledge and program-specific certifications.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work is typically performed in an office/laboratory environment and exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis. Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills. May be required to interact with angry or disruptive students.
Learned physical skill is required for keyboarding and ten-key functions. Some physical skill required to lift and work on equipment that may be located in tight and poorly lighted spaces, such as under desks and workstations or other confined areas. Lifting and moving of computer components and peripherals weighing between 40 and 90 pounds.
