Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S. in biology/microbiology or related field with 2 years of related lab experience. Experience with RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing in a diagnostic laboratory setting. General computer knowledge including the ability to use spreadsheets.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for conducting molecular PCR/RT-PCR on clinical and quality control samples submitted to the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center. Specific job duties will include biological sample preparation, DNA and/or RNA extraction, PCR/RT-PCR/real-time PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, digital imaging of gels, post PCR purification, and preparation of DNA sequencing samples in a fast paced, diagnostic laboratory. Other responsibilities include data collection, data entry, assistance with maintaining molecular laboratory supplies and stock solutions and communicating results with other members of the lab team. The job may occasionally involve work after hours or on weekends.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Standard laboratory skills as well as experience with molecular biological techniques. Organizing and reporting data and prepare summaries. General computer knowledge, including using spreadsheets. Good communication and time management skills as well as the working with multiple labs to complete tasks.

Stand or sit for long periods of time and lift up to 50lbs.
