Job Summary:

Assists in planning, establishing, managing and maintaining the Sheridan College Living Laboratories.

Reports To:

Mae Smith, Director of Agriculture

Education/Qualifications:

•Education: Associates degree or higher, preferred
•Experience: 2 years work-related experience

Licensure:
•Valid Driver’s License
•Valid Wyoming Private or Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License (may be obtained upon employment)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge:
●Common practices and methods of crop science, vegetable and fruit production, and landscaping and turf management.
●Proper agronomic and horticulture practices including, but not limited to tillage, planting, irrigation, harvest, soil conservation, weed control, pruning, pest control and pesticide or herbicide applications.
●Safe equipment operation and safety rules associated with agricultural and educational activities.
●University, state, city, county and federal rules and regulations applicable to area.
●Basic computer applications.
●Familiarity with rangeland management and vegetation.
●Greenhouse maintenance and plant production.
●Familiarity with different irrigation system types.

Abilities and Skills:

●Ability to follow instructions.
●Have hand/eye coordination and manual and physical dexterity to safely and effectively operate and maintain farm facility, equipment, and tools.
●Communicate effectively and respectably with faculty, staff, students and the public.
●Assist with maintenance and record keeping for facility, equipment and supplies.
●Assist with supervision and training of assigned student staff.
●Operate computer to maintain records and respond to communication.
●Move up to 100 pounds
●Work as a team member and foster a cooperative work environment.
●Organizational skills and time management.
●Private pesticide applicator license preferred.
●Irrigation line installation and maintenance.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Most work performed outdoors; regular exposure to dirt, dust, noise, adverse weather conditions and mechanical hazards when operating farm tools/equipment. Heavy lifting is required.

Responsibility/Duty:

Manage, supervise and participate in the installation, irrigation, fertilization, planting, weed control, soil conservation, pruning, landscape maintenance, application of chemicals, harvesting of crops, chicken egg collection and rotation.
