Under the general direction of the Director, Education Commons, the Associate Director, Digital Products and Architecture provides senior leadership, mentorship, inspiration and motivation to Education Commons team by living our core values and leading by example toward our aspirational goal of Inspiring the pursuit of discovery at OISE and beyond.

As a hands-on leader, the incumbent will empower and lead the team to implement strategic priorities and provide tactical direction and operational excellence with respect to: digital products (platform development and custom development); data science/governance; system integration, infrastructure architecture and management; cyber security and data security and privacy.

In collaboration with Associate Director, Client Experience and Learning Technologies, the incumbent will design and lead feasibility studies, pilots and proof of concepts as well as architect infrastructure to support current needs of OISE community to support teaching, learning and research priorities.

In partnership with academic and administrative leaders within the division and across the University, the Associate Director, Digital Products and Architecture will continually improve infrastructure architectures, application development models and maintain infrastructure strategy to remain relevant, bring efficiencies, drive innovation and facilitate technology adoption.

The Associate Director, Digital Products and Architecture will represent Education Commons on various University committees and perform a role of Deputy Director when required while acting as OISE, Education Commons representative, advocate of best practice and liaison in building partnerships and unique OISE experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

A post graduate degree in the field of computer science, information systems, MBA or an equivalent combination of education and experience field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum eight years of senior IT divisional management experience. Proven experience in leading IT infrastructure, application development and cyber security areas of information technology. Expertise in integrating technologies and methodologies to suit and enhance technology in a University environment; Experience working in a shared services environment.

SKILLS:

Strong demonstrable skills in object-oriented design and programming, particularly in a LAMP environment.

Expertise in HTML, SQL, implementation of internet security protocols, data security practices, and database administration. Working knowledge of Java, JavaScript, and scripting languages; content management systems; accessible design practices.

Understanding of various data structures and common methods in data transformation

Knowledge about data modeling, data access and data storage techniques.

Proven and demonstrable experience in architecting, designing and implementing high volume, high availability systems, complex enterprise wide projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple architecture domains

Experience with Cloud/AWS, Analytics, Big data, Microservices/API, Middleware (Java, Python), Security and other leading edge technologies

Knowledge of Agile approaches to software development and able to put key Agile principles into practice to deliver solution incrementally

Experience with key integration platforms and patterns

Knowledge of architecture development methodology (ADM) and frameworks like TOGAF, Zachman

Demonstrated ability to apply ISO 27001 (information security standard)

Highly knowledgeable in the teaching, learning, and research functions within a higher education context.

Demonstrated knowledge of existing and emerging information systems technology.

Demonstrated leadership, managerial, coaching, mentoring and team-building skills

Experience managing in a unionized environment.

Demonstrated strong project management skills and ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, manage multiple priorities, as well as deal with unexpected emergencies as they arise

Effective problem-solving/troubleshooting skill

Excellent ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and constituencies within OISE, the University, and in the education community

Strong operational excellence mindset

Demonstrated effective leadership in change management

Demonstrated skills in budget management and generating revenue in an academic setting

Superior oral, written, interpersonal and organizational skills

Strong customer service orientation

Ability to work collaboratively and manage conflict

Ability to make difficult decisions.

Ability to drive change and build capabilities that effectively balance the needs between continuously exploiting capabilities to optimize operational efficiency and delivering innovative and agile IT services and solutions

Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and persuasion

Public sector strategic vendor and partner relationship management

Strong negotiation skills and superior ability to instill confidence in external and internal constituencies that their IT administrative needs will be met

Demonstrated excellent leadership and interpersonal skills

Ability to work well under pressure and competing demands
