Summary of Duties:

The Director of Campaign Communications will oversee the daily operations of the Foundation’s Marketing and Communication team and the production of campaign communication content development, including writing, graphic design, digital media, videography / photography, and social media.

The Director is responsible for implementing WSU Foundation communications strategies in support of a ten-year fundraising campaign. The Director reports to the AVP Campaign and Philanthropic Communications, while working closely with all members of Washington State University Foundation leadership.

The Director of Campaign Communications contributes to the development of external and internal communication plans for the WSU Foundation. The Director is responsible for assigning work to meet deadlines outlined in the plans to include case development, printed pieces, social media, tool-kit templates for the Development Officers and branded campaign materials.

The Director will oversee the redesign of WSU Advancement communication vehicles, Foundation websites and any other related sites, as well as contribute to and manage the strategy for posting relevant information on all social media platforms with the aim of creating a vehicle to share stories about students, faculty, alumni and donors that amplifies impact across the WSU system.

The Director will be responsible for the management of the division’s internal and external communications materials in print and electronic formats related to fundraising and key divisional events and will orchestrate the planning associated with those efforts. As needed, the Director will manage the creation of other materials needed to cultivate major donors, and attract high-quality faculty, researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students.

The Director will also work with the Annual Fund and Planned Giving staffs to understand the mailing calendar, provide content and design assistance where necessary and ensure that their messaging is in alignment with WSU Foundation brand, standards and materials and adheres to university branding guidelines. In the planning and creation of these materials the Director will use multiple methods to gather input, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, and observation of other forums when appropriate. The Director will manage the Art Director, Advancement Writer, Graphic Designer, and Administrative Assistant. Additional personnel-management responsibility may be added in the future.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or other relevant field AND four (4) years of professional level experience in print or broadcast media, public relations work or other relevant experience which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

  • Experience leading creative teams.

  • Highly developed project management skills with a track record of meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality communication pieces.

  • Ability to concurrently support and manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong customer-service orientation.

  • Exceptional writing/editing abilities with current writing/editing samples.

  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and some weekends.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education and/or a university Advancement unit is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated understanding of web/digital communication technology and best practices.

  • Basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
