The Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT) at The University of Virginia is seeking a Data Operations Lead or Senior Data Operations Lead (commensurate with education and experience), to join our team in Charlottesville, VA. The Data Operations Lead ensures that data standards are developed, maintained, and utilized in support of clinical research and operations activities. They lead data operations development, maintenance, and training and assist in business and system development. They work with clinical research teams on studies and supervise other embedded Data Operations Specialists to provide support on all matters relating to data management, study devices and applications, and data collection systems. The Data Operations Lead performs a variety of data collection, management, compilation, and coding functions related to the secure preparation and storage of accurate data sets. Primary duties support clinical research; the position works closely with Data Operations Specialists, Research Coordinators, Regulatory Specialists, and managers.

The Data Operations Lead creates, maintains, and trains others on data and technology processes and systems. They document descriptive, analytical, and evaluative data in support of research, business, and operational requirements. They will generate, revise and store written text, graphs, and numerical data. They complete tasks for studies or operations on a weekly basis and complete broader data, process, and operational projects over longer durations and with greater latitude. They assist researchers with data analysis as applicable and will maintain and improve business systems and report on findings relevant to clinical and business operations. They also train and supervise junior staff, student workers, and volunteers.

CDT was originally established in 2010 in association with the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences Behavioral Sciences, Endocrinology, and the School of Engineering, and during 2017, was formally established as an independent Center. The Center has pursued a path to advance the use of technology, including analytics, to allow improved management, monitoring, and therapies for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. CDT is a recognized US and world leader in research on technological treatment of diabetes.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Lead implementation, testing, use and maintenance of data and operational systems, e.g. forms, reports, and dashboards for collecting and storing research and operational data.
  • Code, process, de-identify, and enter data into forms and databases. Train and supervise others on same. Monitor for data accuracy and completeness; maintain records; and generate reports.
  • Ensure that policies governing data management including security, privacy, and access are met. Interpret, report on, and integrate policy changes into process changes and train others.
  • Recommend process improvements for daily operating procedures; collect requirements from end-users; assist or lead teams to build, test, deploy, and maintain processes and systems; and train end-users. Document proposals and changes via reports, flow charts, presentations, mock-ups, diagram, etc.
  • Assist with support and training of end-users (clinical research participants and CDT staff) on the use of clinical research devices, apps, software, etc. that generate clinical research data.
  • Perform basic analysis of information in support of research, business, or operational data to identify, interpret, and report on trends or patterns found in data sets. Create graphs, reports, and presentations of results to aid and improve study operations and project decisions.
  • Coordinate, delegate, and supervise the work of junior professionals, student workers, and volunteers.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Data Operations Lead:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Senior Data Operations Lead:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience: At least 6 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with at least two years of experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience with Clinical Research, Diabetes Research, or Diabetes
  • Experience with eCRF, eReg, or similar
  • Experience with UML, DFD, ERD, or similar
  • Experience with ETL processes and scripting languages (e.g. Python, R, VBA, Java, etc.)
  • Experience with MS O365 environment
  • Experience with sensitive or regulated data (HIPAA, FERPA, FINRA, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Most of the work performed is in an office environment.
  • Work will require being on-site in a clinical research setting and requires interaction with clinical research participants
  • Clinic research admissions may require night and weekend work
  • Most work is performed sitting in front of a computer

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
