The Program Manager, Functional Skills Development is a full-time position for an innovative and collaboratively-minded individual to enhance and relaunch a program that gives University of Arizona students, regardless of their major, the tools to explore their interests in high demand career fields, rapidly acquire relevant skills that make them competitive for positions in those fields, and build a powerful professional network. The Program Manager will seek to minimize disparities in career outcomes, ensuring in particular that programming reaches University of Arizona First Generation students, students of color, and students in non-linear majors with relevant opportunities to build the functional and interpersonal skills that enhance their recognition as strong candidates for positions in-demand fields in the state of Arizona, regionally, and nationally. The Program Manager will be a key member of the Career Education area within Student Engagement & Career Development (SECD), a unit whose mission is to inspire and prepare all graduates to create lives of opportunity aligned with their purpose and values. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilize both data and relationship-building with key stakeholders to develop an updated vision, strategy, and operational model for functional skill development programs such as Fast Track.
- Through workforce data analysis, identify skills or job roles in high demand in the State of Arizona, regionally, and nationally, focusing on those relevant to multiple majors.
- Evaluate and select content that maximizes learning the desired functional skills; partnering with employers, external vendors, Continuing and Professional Education, and/or faculty; create additional instructional curriculum where needed.
- Partner across SECD to identify additional programs and resources (i.e., Build the Skill) to complement functional skill building through enhancing students’ transferable skills and professional network.
- Partner with faculty to promote programs, and to explore the potential for curricular integration.
- Set priorities, manage simultaneous projects, work effectively with colleagues, and complete projects on time.
- Design and implement assessment strategies for functional skill building program(s) and adapt program(s) as needed based on assessment results.
- Manage budget and vendor/partner relationships.
- Support special projects to advance the long-term vision for Career Development, specifically to scale and expand a collaborative campus model for cutting-edge career and professional development; engage the campus community at the direction of the Senior Director.
- In partnership with the Employer and Alumni Engagement and Student Engagement teams, cultivate a network of key employers, alumni, industry experts, vendors, professional associations, and campus representatives in targeted areas.
- Identify and implement revenue generating strategies such as employer sponsorship of skill building programs, offerings for non-Arizona students, etc.
- Contribute to a long-term strategy to educate employers about campus recruiting tools and help expand the number and diversity of employers who recognize the UA as a premier source of college talent.
- In partnership with SECD Marketing, create and implement targeted campaigns to enhance awareness of and participation in functional skill building programs; focus on general outreach as well as specific messaging for First Generation students, students of color, and students in non-linear majors.
- Build partnerships with academic colleges and explore curricular integration strategies.
- Facilitate career education in both small group and 1:1 settings including open appointments, workshops, and online environments.
- Develop and deliver interactive, developmentally appropriate presentations, workshops and programs on in-demand career lifecycle topics, with measurable, clearly-stated learning outcomes/calls to engagement for the students.
- Create and implement educational campaigns to enhance awareness and use of career preparation resources.
- Represent the Department on university committees and at conferences as needed and assigned.
- Participate in at least 2-3 webinars or other professional development opportunities and share learning with the team, by request or at the direction of the Senior Director.
- Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Department and University goals and objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, manage simultaneous projects, work effectively with colleagues, and complete projects on time.
- Exceptional communication skills and the capacity for working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build and foster relationships with external partners and strong customer service skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Master’s degree in a field related to organizational development, talent management, training and development, or other relevant discipline.
- Experience with curriculum design and development, either creating curriculum and/or identifying vendor content.
- Experience teaching/facilitating at the university or secondary level or in private industry.
- Experience using data to inform decisions, assess results, and tell a compelling story about program/project successes.
- Experience developing and executing educational, career-related, or skills training programs and initiatives.
