Supervision Received: Reports to the Chair of Philosophy
Salary: $55,000.00- $65,000.00 (Salary will commensurate with education and experience)

General Statement of Duties:

The Department of Philosophy at Westfield State University is seeking a one-year full-time instructor/assistant professor for the academic year 2021-22. The post will carry a 4/4 load. In Fall 2021, the load will consist of one section of our general introductory course (Great Philosophical Issues, PHIL-0104) and three sections of Introduction to Ethics (PHIL-0102). Spring course load to be determined, but it will consist of courses that satisfy requirements for WSU's general education curriculum. Standard Course descriptions for these courses may be found on the registrar's website.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:

  • Preparation and delivery of courses (assessment of student performance, timely submission of final grades, holding office hours, etc)
  • Contributing to the life of the department by attending faculty meetings, engaging in committee work, recruiting students for the minor, etc.


Required Qualifications
  • MA or PhD in Philosophy required

Preferred Qualifications
  • College-level teaching experience preferred
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting domestic diversity and/or global multiculturalism in the curriculum where appropriate.
