Stanford Libraries is looking for a full time Digital Media Specialist to join our Digital Library Systems and Services. This is a 6-months fixed term position.

Job Purpose:

The Digital Imaging Production Coordinator supports the fulfillment of digital imaging requests and projects, contributing to the creation and provision of digital access to archives and library collections. They are involved in all steps of the production workflow, including materials preparation and handling, data entry, quality control, and preparation of files for online access and repository preservation. The Digital Imaging Production Coordinator will participate actively in the routine operations of digital imaging projects, including materials management, file management, troubleshooting, exception handling, and coordination of tasks. They oversee a team of lab assistants, delegating tasks, reviewing work, and managing their work schedules. They also work closely with a range of team members and stakeholders, including but not limited to: service manager, lab manager, lead photographer, project manager, public services staff, patrons, archivists and curators, and external vendors. The Digital Imaging Production Coordinator will also track production progress on a weekly basis, communicate project status, and maintain overall project documentation as required.

Develop and execute digital imaging production assignments requiring fully developed skills and understanding of area of specialization. Partner with internal and external clients regarding fulfillment of digital imaging requests and management of projects.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Manage the flow of library materials through digitization processes and preservation workflows in collection projects. Coordinate with library stakeholders to develop and implement library projects and workflows to support requests for services.
  • Delegate, oversee, coordinate, and perform technical aspects of project, with guidance and input from supervisor and other technical leads
  • Supervise part time digitization lab staff.
  • Prepare required metadata and project documentation
  • Review, evaluate, approve, and monitor schedules, product quality and adherence to technical specifications.
  • Work with management to gather information, develop project objectives, budgets, schedules and implementation plans.
  • Perform project management oversight of small projects or more than one large task within a larger project.
  • May produce high-quality digital surrogates of fragile and/or rare materials or other analog sources for access, display, and preservation purposes using a variety of equipment.


* - Other duties may also be assigned, including:
  • Partner with clients to develop and manage projects within time and cost constraints.
  • Collaborate with clients on creative approaches to projects involving abstract or technical content to meet objectives: articulating the production process and expectations, communicating issues, providing status updates, and suggesting appropriate methods for improvement.
  • May act as primary liaison with vendors.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced technical experience in digital imaging, including but not limited to operation of digital cameras and scanners.
  • Proficiency with a variety of software and imaging systems.
  • Understanding of online systems for content distribution.
  • Ability to adapt workflows and troubleshoot errors as necessary.
  • Ability to manage a variety of simultaneous projects within tight deadlines, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mature judgment, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • May require experience planning, coordinating, and executing archival digitization projects.


OTHER RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with use of command-line tools
  • Understanding of digital imaging quality standards and their implementation in production environments


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks
  • Frequently stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, and reach/work above shoulders.
  • Occasionally sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat.
  • Visual acuity including color vision.
