Stanford University

Job Number:
89372

This is a 3-year fixed term position.

Stanford Libraries is seeking a full-time Digital Projects and Data Manager to join a team supporting preservation, discovery, and access as part of its digital library, an internationally recognized technology program developing innovative solutions to advance teaching, learning and research at one of the world's leading universities. We are a mission-driven organization that emphasizes open, collaborative work and community engagement within Stanford and with partner institutions around the world. The Libraries values are rooted in a commitment of mutual respect and the idea that every member of the staff has something to contribute, and that learning is constant.

About Stanford Libraries:

Stanford Libraries is a network of over 15 libraries with over 400 employees. We are committed to fueling the teaching, learning and research across Stanford by acquiring, stewarding, and making available a robust collection, currently in excess of 12 million items. Everyone in the organization plays a vital role in fulfilling that objective. Our dedication to discoverability and information management also has us engaged in dynamic global partnerships. We are constantly building and strengthening our organization, and we recognize striving for excellence is a marathon and not a sprint. We are constantly trying to strike the right pace, and admit there are times when we find ourselves at a fast jog. While we hope to always find candidates who fit within our organization, what we truly seek is someone who will add to our culture, our profession as well as the greater academic arena. We are invested in the success of our teams and the individuals who represent Stanford Libraries.

About the position:

As a part of Digital Library Systems and Services (DLSS), the Digital Projects and Data Manager is a member of a highly collaborative team engaged in the creation, management, preservation, and publishing of digital collections. The Digital Projects and Data Manager contributes to these efforts as both a project manager and a data manager. Project management responsibilities include developing work plans, tracking tasks and overall progress, generating documentation, and communicating project status to stakeholders. Data management responsibilities include analysis, creation, transformation, and quality assurance of descriptive data for library and archival collections to be mapped and indexed to online platforms for discovery and delivery of digital content to researchers. In collaboration with archivists, metadata specialists, and software engineers, the Digital Projects and Data Manager supports the development of generalizable approaches and streamlined workflows to facilitate the processing of archival data to collection discovery platforms efficiently and at scale. Launched to the public in 2018, VT (https://exhibits.stanford.edu/virtual-tribunals) is a project to compile a comprehensive database of international criminal tribunal records, from the post-WWII cases through the contemporary tribunals, fully digitized, and rendered searchable through a single online portal. Working within the curatorial, technical, and operational framework established for the VT project, the Digital Projects and Data Manager supports work to incorporate additional content, including archival audiovisual and textual materials, to the database. They work with subject matter and language experts, digital collection specialists, digital library service managers, and archivists as needed; they also may serve as the product owner or business owner during software development cycles, working with engineering teams on enhancements and maintenance.
