Position Summary:The Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC, the top ranked public school of public health in the nation, is comprised of eight departments and one program, and includes the Dean’s Office plus other centrally administrated units of the School. We have an enrolled student body of over 1,700, taught by approximately 220 permanent faculty, and a number of adjunct and visiting faculty. We have over 900 full- and part-time staff personnel of various types that help to facilitate the teaching, research and service missions of the School. The SPH serves all 100 counties of North Carolina and works in over 55 countries worldwide.
The mission of the Gillings School of Global Public Health is to improve public health, promote individual well-being, and eliminate health inequalities across North Carolina and around the world.
The new Gillings MPH Core is the centerpiece of the Master of Public Health program at Gillings – a single, integrated, 12-credit curriculum that spans our 11 concentrations with the MPH@UNC on-line degree program with Summer, Spring and Fall (1 & 2) cohorts. A new admissions process was created to support the new MPH degree; which has different delivery models. Since the degree is not in an academic department, the admissions process has to be administered centrally in the Office of Student Affairs.
The Admissions Coordinator will manage all aspects of the admissions process for the MPH degree. The primary purpose of this position is to assist in identifying, recruiting, and enrolling a new academically strong and diverse student class each academic year. The position holder will articulate admissions policies and procedures to prospective students. Additionally, this person will review academic credentials of applicants to make appropriate recommendations regarding admissions decisions to the MPH program. S/he will co-manage the application review process for the residential and online MPH programs by providing systems training, weekly reports with next step action items for admission committees, and submit admission decisions to the Graduate School.
Educational Requirements:An advanced degree in a relevant field is required or a combination of a bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience.
Qualifications and Experience:A minimum of 3 years of admissions experience with at least 2 years of experience in student affairs preferred; strong written and oral communication, organizational and management skills with the ability to communicate effectively with faculty and students; ability to coordinate efforts with other members of the department, school, and University; and strong computer skills, especially in systems (e.g., ConnectCarolina, SOPHAS, Slate, Workforce) used to track student admissions and enrollment decisions.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. Sports and athletic programs: UNC is an NCAA Division I school with 28 varsity teams. Technological facilities: Students find multiple uses for Carolina's state-of-the-art technological resources. The MetaLab oversees the development of SunSITE, one of the world's busiest digital library and electronic publishing projects.
Students may open e-mail accounts, and many use campus computer resources to construct personal Web pages. Students in residence halls have hardwired network connections to the Internet and cable television in their rooms. At the ATN Training center, students may take classes on software packages and utilities. Computer labs are available for student use all over campus.
Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
