Department Description:

The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is one of 51 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The Center’s mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach. Our primary research interest is to study how cancer driver mutations influence cancer cell fate and malignant evolution. Our goal is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms by which cancer drivers establish malignant cell fate decisions (e.g. “cancer associated plasticity) and identify evolutionary patterns licensed by cancer drivers that underlie cancer diversification and heterogeneity. Our work is designed to identify therapeutic strategies that not only counter hallmark cancer properties, but those that specifically exploit unique emergent properties of cancer evolution as susceptibilities.
