Clinical Faculty in Language and Literacy, and Program Coordinator and Advisor for Students enrolled in Part-time Pathways

POSITION

Full-time, with faculty rank; clinical position, term appointment (non-tenure); 11-month faculty appointment in the School of Education, Teacher Education Division.

STARTING DATE: July 1, 2021

BACKGROUND

The Division of Teacher Education at Fresno Pacific University offers the Multiple Subjects and Single Subject credential programs which are accredited by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), and the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). The programs are offered at the university’s main campus in southeast Fresno, and also at 2 regional campuses:  Merced, and Visalia. The Division of Teacher Education is committed to providing students a strong foundation in educational theory and pedagogical skills in the context of the Christian faith. This Christian worldview invests the program with purpose and direction; it provides a foundation for the understanding and development of excellence in teaching and responsiveness to the concerns of young people and their families and communities. The programs maintain a strong reputation within the educational community of the Central Valley as graduates are known for their excellent preparation to teach and serve in the diverse schools of the valley and beyond.

THE VISION AND MISSION OF THE DIVISION OF TEACHER EDUCATION

As a program with a core mission of equipping future educators to serve a deeply diverse student population, we seek faculty with a demonstrated commitment to work with marginalized communities and with students holding a range of worldviews.

ROLES

Teaching professor and lead instructor in the teacher education division. Focus: the foundational knowledge of language and language acquisition necessary to assist future teachers in meeting the needs of both English speakers and English learners.

  • Serve as a lead teacher for the courses preparing students to work with linguistically and culturally diverse populations.
  • Support adjunct faculty who teach these courses.
  • Work with program directors to assist in addressing issues related to teaching in linguistically and culturally diverse populations in both elementary and a secondary school-settings.
  • Develop and maintain Fresno Pacific University’s RICA support system which serves multiple subject and educational specialist credential students.
  • Maintain an active scholarly agenda.

Program Coordinator for the Part-time Student Teaching Pathway

  • Provide leadership for the design and assessment of the part-time student teaching pathway.
  • Admit and advise all part-time students enrolled at the Fresno Main Campus.
  • Work with program directors in the Office of Clinical Practice to develop partnerships with school districts where part-time students are assigned as student teachers.
  • Mentor part-time student teachers.

Total Contract Load:  30 units

  • Teaching: 24 units
  • Administrative (Non-Teaching Assignments): 6 units

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Education or field related to ELD/ELA.
  • Commitment to preparing teachers to work in diverse and high poverty schools.
  • Record of successful teaching (K-12) or experience working in diverse school settings (K-12).
  • Working knowledge of the CA ELA/ELD standards.
  • Ability to work collegially with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Successful experience teaching college or post-BA students.
  • Record or promise of scholarly achievement.
  • Excellent skills in communication.
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the University’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning, and involvement in a local church.

Preferred: 

  • Earned terminal degree (or ABD) in Education with an emphasis on teaching English Learners and Multicultural Education or closely related field.
  • Successful experience teaching in a teacher education program or other graduate education program(s).

COMPENSATION: Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF).
