Primary responsibilities include assisting with the administration and management of Federal, State, institutional, and private financial aid programs. Assist students through the financial aid process from initial application to final determination of eligibility and disbursement of funds. Respond to student, parent, and College staff inquiries regarding the financial aid process. Assist in responding to phone calls and the ACD line. Assist with walk-in visits from students and/or parents. Cross-train in all other financial aid processes. This position also supports the Corrections Education Program (CEP), therefore this position requires travel to the correctional facilities to assist with financial aid duties.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Manage and monitor processing of all incoming internal and external mail. Provide materials and training for student workers, center staff and other student services team members to better assist students and prospects with financial aid needs.
  • Assist in managing the workload for the financial aid student employee.
  • Collect financial aid documents from students and review them for accuracy and request additional documentation as necessary.
  • Assist in updating Colleague regarding student status and adjust awards on AIDE as needed.
  • Assist with financial aid historical student records. Assist with financial aid scanning and retrieval on the Perceptive Content System.
  • Manage and maintain the financial aid e-mail account and fax machine.
  • Provide front-line support at the Student Services Nexus and answer the financial aid ACD telephone line.
  • Review, make recommendations, and adjustments as necessary for professional judgement(s)
  • Serve as a liaison for the CEP program
  • Travel as needed to correctional facilities to support the CEP program; as such will need to pass a LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) clearance.
  • Assist with other tasks in the financial aid office and in Student Services, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) preferred, or equivalent; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Unofficial transcript showing degree awarded must be attached to your application or application will be rejected as incomplete.

    Other Skills and Abilities

    Ability to organize complex technical information and data. Ability to deal effectively with students and the general public. Ability to work extensively with Colleague and with personal computers. Knowledge of office software including word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Ability to assume decision-making responsibilities with minimum supervision.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with groups of customers or employees of organizations.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

    A copy of Jackson College's Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report is available on the JC Campus Safety & Security website.     Our history

    Jackson College offers quality, transformational educational opportunities to prepare students for today’s career fields or transfer to a university.

    Founded as Jackson Junior College in 1928, the College operated as a division of the public Jackson Union School District and was located near the high school in downtown Jackson, Mich. In 1962, Jackson County voters created Jackson Community College as a distinct entity; and in 1964, they passed a charter millage that still helps to fund the College today. Rapid enrollment and program growth in the 1960s spurred construction of a new campus on its present site. In 2013, in light of the College’s decision to begin development of curriculum for bachelor’s degree programs and increased efforts in international studies, the Board of Trustees voted to change the name to Jackson College.

    Today, the College owns more than 500 acres and sits on a scenic rural site six miles south of the city of Jackson, and also operates Jackson College @ LISD TECH in Adrian, Clyde E. LeTarte Center, Hillsdale, and W.J.     Jackson College Affinity Groups In an effort to better understand and serve the various ethnic communities in the College’s service area, the College has established several affinity groups from the various local ethnic communities. These groups meet to strategize on ways the College can better serve each respective community. In an effort to increase the affinity group’s effectiveness, the College is hiring a part-time liaison for each group. There are five affinity groups: Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black/African American, Pakistani, and Indian.
