Nature of Work

The Business Services Program Director (Administrator) for Community Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine is responsible for high-level oversight and strategic management of all the Department of OB/Gyn’s freestanding clinics. This includes partnering with the DFA and Division Chiefs to execute the following: conduct and execute clinic and market-specific strategic planning; ensure fiscal sustainability and growth through pro forma development and budget management; and provide Human Resources expertise and guidance to clinic managers to facilitate the creation and maintenance of a top-notch freestanding clinic workforce.

As assigned by the DFA, the Administrator serves as the representative for the School of Medicine (SOM), the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (UCD), and the University of Colorado (CU) for relevant fiscal and administrative matters. The Administrator ensures consistency between the policies and procedures of the SOM, UCD, CU Medicine, University of Colorado Hospital and Highlands Ranch Hospital.

Supervision Received

The Administrator reports directly to the Department’s Director of Finance and Administration (DFA).

  • Direct supervision of all community practice managers, which currently includes CU Medicine South Metro Obstetrics and Gynecology, CU Medicine East Denver (Rocky Mountain) Obstetrics and Gynecology, CU Medicine Highlands Ranch (5280) Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Comprehensive Women’s Health Center.
  • Facilitates the business interactions and relationship between SGF Fertility and the University.
Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Oversees fiscal activities of all community medicine practices, including the following:Development and management of operating, capital, and enrichment budgets
  • Pro forma development for any new community medicine initiativeDesign relevant and benchmarked compensation and incentive plans for each unique practiceWork closely with DFA, CU Medicine, and practice managers to analyze and enhance revenue cycle opportunitiesCreate faculty and practice performance dashboards that are reviewed monthly and contribute to decision-making and compensation determinationProvide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to DFA, Chair, and Executive Committee on financial performance of each practiceProvide sound stewardship of all community practice finances
Human Resource Management

  • In conjunction with DFA, oversees community practice personnel matters including, but not limited to, the following:
Position creation in the University and CU Medicine human resource systemsMaintenance of proper funding distributionFacilitation of employee recruitmentsPerformance assessment and salary settingEmployee development and orientationProgressive disciplinary processesCounsels personnel on matters of benefits, work issues, personal interrelations, grievances, and other matters within the workplaceLiaise with University of Colorado, CU Medicine, and UC Health Human Resources departments as necessary for issues such as FML, performance management, ADA, Worker’s Comp, salary planning, etc.Procurement Management

    Final approver on all community practice procurementEstablish and communicate consistent policies for procurement practicesSet up procurement and travel cards for new employeesTrain new employees on Marketplace and Concur and provide ongoing support
Facilities and Operations Management

  • Works with Division Chief to oversee any Divisional facilities both on and off campus and ensure efficiency of operations
  • Coordinates the Division’s response to space and inventory surveys as required by the University
  • Administers the internal allocation of Divisional space to ensure optimal use
  • Oversees Divisional building security and safety procedures
  • Oversees the Division’s asset management system
Planning, Development and Analysis

  • Participates in planning activities for the Division, including long-range and short-range business and strategic planning
  • Provides the Practice Manager and Medical Directors, along with Division Chiefs and DFA, data and financial analysis as needed for operational, management, business development and strategic decisions
  • Maintain a pulse on the OB/Gyn market in the Denver Metro area and Colorado generally, evaluating opportunities for community partnerships

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $65,067 – $105,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 3+ years progressive administrative experience within a healthcare or university setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students; experienced in the supervision of administrative and support staff personnel
  • Effective communication/presentation skills and a proven track record of forming collaborative and effective working relationships with physicians and administrative staff

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in health administration, business, public health, or related field
