Princeton University Library seeks an innovative and collaborative Librarian for Modern & Contemporary Special Collections to transform Princeton's engagement with contemporary collecting and stewardship practice. The Librarian will steward Princeton's outstanding post-1900 Special Collections (SC), building holdings in all media, leading post-custodial projects, and democratizing access and expanding interpretation in ways that positively impact the world. The successful candidate will report to the Assistant University Librarian for Special Collections, Rare Book and Manuscripts. Primary Responsibilities *Collaborates with faculty and Library specialists to provide instruction to students and the public. *Collaborates on acquisitions that support the Library's educational mission. *Promotes donor relations and manages gifts. *Collaborates with archivists to build a post-custodial curation program through relationships with community groups and other similarly engaged institutions. *Collaborates with SC Public Services to provide on-site and remote reference for all users, including item-specific analysis, collection history, and digital access. *Contributes to SC outreach activities, developing content for blogs, library publicity, public presentations, and tours. *Prepares content for exhibitions; collaborates on all aspects of exhibition related work. *Partners with SC Technical Services on accessioning, cataloging, archival processing, and description; attends to issues of copyright, privacy, and confidentiality. *Collaborates with Preservation in maintaining the safekeeping of the modern collections; assists in emergency response situations. *Represents SC across campus, in professional organizations, and multi-institutional projects; shares research in conferences and publications. Essential Qualifications *Advanced degree in a relevant field with demonstrated engagement in primary sources. *Minimum three years of work experience with special collections. *Excellent communication skills. *Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and active engagement with a diverse community of faculty, staff, patrons, students, and the broader public. *Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and willingness to learn new technologies and scholarly communication trends. *Demonstrated service orientation. *Ability to thrive in an expansive, changing, team-based environment. Preferred Qualifications *Archival experience, including the acquisition of born-digital materials and post-custodial practices. *Demonstrated skill and experience building relationships with donors and partners from marginalized communities. *Reading knowledge of languages relevant to SC's modern holdings.
