    FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, is seeking candidates for the Emergency Management Coordinator position in the Office of the President.

    Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Under limited supervision, oversees the Fort Valley State University Disaster Preparedness Program, Emergency Operations, and Homeland Security plans; also responsible for inspection of fire and emergency equipment; performs related duties, as required. This position reports to the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Draft and maintain the Emergency Operations Plan and other documentation.Coordinate emergency efforts as necessary with Campus Safety, Plant Operations and other departments as necessary.Prepare After-Action reports required after emergency exercises or actual emergencies.Serve as the emergency liaison and works closely with campus safety as necessary when emergencies occur.Keep apprised of local, state, and federal laws regarding emergency management; attend, participate, and/or coordinate emergency management monthly training, drills and exercises. Attend, participate, and coordinate emergency management training.Educate the campus community monthly regarding disaster preparedness.Recommend, draft, update, and revise codes; prepare reports and plans.Lead the institution's COVID-19 Testing efforts.Coordinate the University's COVID -19 Contact tracing efforts.Assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of the Student Community Health Ambassadors, including their role in COVID-19 testing and follow-up for students.Coordinate campus COVID-19 vaccination effortsLead the development, testing, review, revision, and distribution of the overall University emergency operations plan and projects associated with the University pre-disaster hazard mitigation plan.Lead the activation of the University Emergency Operations Center and in the event of a large-scale emergency.Respond 24/7 to emergencies at the University.Develop and deliver training; prepares information for campus via newsletters, etc..Coordinate periodic campus events to highlight emergency preparedness and security awareness matters.Conduct risk assessments and developing departmental and site-specific emergency plans.Coordinate and/or complete various projects as assigned.Maintain supplies and equipment.

    • Principles and practices of strategic planning.
    • Using initiative, discretion, and judgment within established procedures, guidelines, and rules.
    • Defining problems, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
    • Managing situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness, and sound judgment.
    • Interpreting and applying City, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations.
    • Managing staff, delegating tasks and authority, and evaluating staff performance.
    • Building effective teams and providing efficient customer service.
    • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Operating a personal computer and various software applications.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with department heads, managers, supervisors, employees, vendors, suppliers, external public and private agencies, and the general public; and apply safe work practices.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of education or experience.
    • More than three (3) years of related experience required.
    • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
    • Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
    • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
    • Minimum of three years of experience working independently in safety and risk management field.
    • Ability to work weekends and flexible hours.
    • Fire Safety Certificate.
    • Emergency Management Certificate.
